Jana Flamino
Assistant Center Director
After homeschooling my five children for over 20 years, I returned to work in 2020 as a private academic, executive function and ESL tutor while volunteering as an online tutor for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I began working at Mathnasium of Lafayette in 2022, first contracting as an instructor/administrator before joining the team officially as their Assistant Director in 2023.
Having struggled with math myself as a child, I offer understanding and encouragement in my approach. My personal love for math grew when homeschooling my own children, and I am now a firm believer that every student has the potential to master math with the right support and approach.
Alex Canales
Assistant Center Director
I've been with Mathnasium of Lafayette since 2024, but just recently moved up as one of the center's assistant directors. I am currently pursuing a degree in mathematics and I've seen first-hand how a solid mathematical foundation can make a difference in education. When I am not working or studying, you will find me solving math problems or puzzles. I look forward to helping our students achieve their math goals!

At Mathnasium of Lafayette CA, we believe the best exam preparation is building deep math understanding and mastery over time.
Students begin their enrollment process with a diagnostic assessment that helps us identify their current skills and knowledge gaps. From there, we create a personalized learning plan that builds math skills consistently, session by session, so students aren't starting from scratch before every test.
Our specially trained tutors work with students across any K–12 math class, from elementary math through Precalculus and beyond, reinforcing the concepts they're learning in school, filling in foundational gaps, and developing the problem-solving skills that serve them on quizzes, midterms, and final exams alike.
When a major exam is approaching, we can align instruction with the specific topics and concepts it will cover, so students walk in feeling prepared.
Yes! Mathnasium of Lafayette CA prepares students for the math portions of the CAASPP
Our tutors align instruction with the California Common Core State Standards to ensure students have a solid grasp of the grade-level concepts they'll encounter on the exam.
We identify each student's knowledge gaps through a diagnostic assessment and build a personalized learning plan that targets the skills and concepts they need to meet and exceed grade-level expectations.
We recommend starting as early as possible. The CAASPP measures cumulative math understanding built over the school year, students benefit most from consistent, ongoing support rather than last-minute preparation.
Starting at the beginning of the school year gives our tutors the time needed to identify gaps, reinforce foundational skills, and ensure students are progressing steadily toward grade-level mastery well before test day.
If your student is already closer to the test date, reach out and we'll put together a focused plan with the time they have.
Yes. At Mathnasium of Lafayette CA, we help high school students prepare for the math portions of the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT® through personalized instruction built around each student's current skills and target score.
Our specially trained tutors use proprietary test prep materials and personalized learning plans to build the content knowledge and problem-solving strategies that matter most on these exams, whether your student is preparing for the first time or working to improve a previous result.
Earlier is always better, and we generally recommend beginning at least three to six months before the exam date.
The SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT® cover a broad range of math content, including algebra, data analysis, geometry, and trigonometry on the ACT®. Starting early gives students the time they need to work through knowledge gaps, practice exam-style problems, and build the consistency and confidence that lead to strong results on test day.
Students with more significant foundational gaps benefit most from beginning in middle school or early high school. If the exam is coming up sooner, reach out to Mathnasium of Lafayette CA and we'll build a targeted plan around your student's timeline.
Mathnasium of Lafayette CA offers math test prep as part of a flat monthly membership fee. Pricing depends on your student's individual plan and session schedule.
For specific pricing information, please contact our center directly — we're happy to walk you through the options and find a plan that fits your student's goals and your family's needs.
The number of sessions depends on the exam your student is preparing for, their current skill level, and the time available before test day.
As a general guide, for major standardized tests like the SAT®, PSAT®, or ACT®, most students benefit from two sessions per week over a three to six month period. For state assessments or school-based exams, a shorter timeline may be sufficient depending on each student's starting point and goals.
After the diagnostic assessment, we'll recommend a session schedule tailored to your student's goals and the time they have available.
