Sarah Pohl

Center Director

A Largo local, Sarah began her journey right here in Pinellas County. Driven by a passion for teaching from a young age, she earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and later an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. During her five years as a state-certified Pinellas County Schools teacher, she provided math instruction for grades five through seven, supported ESOL and ESE students, and led the after-school STEM program. Sarah was a nominee for Emerging Teacher of the Year and winner of the Culturally Competent Teaching Award. At Mathnasium, she continues to support students through personalized learning, and believes every student can succeed with the right guidance. Sarah is bilingual in English and Spanish. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and playing competitive chess.

Beth

Education Coordinator
Beth is the Education Coordinator at Mathnasium of Largo. Beth currently works as a middle school math teacher at a local private school and is knowledgable about middle and high school math prerequisites and coursework. She previously taught mathematics and special education in New Jersey. Beth has a Master's of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She enjoys seeing students build confidence and watching their school grades improve as they progress at Mathnasium!

Abdul

Instructor

Abdul is a graduate of Indian Rocks Christian School and is now in his final year of the pre-med program at USF. His favorite subject is physics. Students enjoy working with Abdul for his patience, kindness, and clear teaching methods. Abdul excels in helping students who are taking advanced high school math classes and college-level math. In his spare time, he enjoys playing games and learning about the world around him. 

Lisa

Instructor

Lisa is a state-certified Pinellas County Schools teacher, and currently teaches advanced math at a local high school. Her twenty-year career includes experience in teaching math at all levels, making her a versatile instructor. She has a soft approach for younger students and she is an expert resource for older students. Lisa has earned a B.S., M.B.A., and Ph.D. She is passionate about empowering students and making math relatable to them. In her free time, Lisa enjoys reading and playing with the chickens she raises.

Tomas

Instructor

Tomas is an IB student taking advanced courses in mathematics. He gets to know students on a personal level so that he can better motivate them and show them how math applies to their lives. His friendly and positive demeanor makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable learning. Outside of work, Tomas volunteers at his church and at a local hospital. 

Alex

Instructor

Alex is a student at St. Petersburg Collegiate, currently taking college-level math classes. He has previously worked with kids as a middle school volleyball coach, and his experience in pushing students to do their absolute best comes in handy when teaching math. Alex has an instructional style that is relaxed yet positive, giving him a great rapport with students. He thoroughly explains concepts so students not only complete work but also master the skill. Alex is bilingual in English and Vietnamese. Outside of work, Alex enjoys playing sports and trying new foods from around the world.

Jovan

Instructor

Jovan is an IB student taking advanced math courses. His passion for math goes beyond schoolwork, having created solutions and programming animations for algebra, calculus, and real analysis. Jovan earned a near-perfect score of 790 on the math SAT. His background in working with students includes experience as an assistant Sunday school teacher. His instructional style is engaging and humorous, allowing students to have a positive learning experience. Jovan hopes to help kids overcome frustration in math and see its usefulness in the real world.

Ernesto

Instructor

Ernesto is a senior in the Early College Program at St. Petersburg College. His background in math includes several advanced classes up through Calculus 3. When working with students, Ernesto helps them step-by-step, ensuring they are engaged by asking probing questions, and then having them practice the skill for retention. Ernesto is bilingual in English and Spanish. In his free time, he likes to play guitar, do physical activities with his friends, and learn about world religions and philosophies.

Emily

Instructor

Emily is a graduate of Calvary Christian High School and now attends the pre-med program at USF. Her background in math includes several AP courses, and she also has significant experience working with children as a camp counselor and Sunday school assistant. Emily's warm, gentle approach helps students have a positive experience with math, helping them become more confident. Outside of work, Emily enjoys playing sports, traveling, and volunteering. In the future, she hopes to help at-risk students in other countries receive an education and receive healthcare.

Jackie

Instructor

Jackie is a student in the IB program and is taking high-level math classes. She has previous experience working with students in an educational setting, having volunteered at a local elementary school. Jackie's instructional style involves breaking down concepts so that students can better understand. Outside of work, Jackie likes to play the cello and solve Rubik's cubes.
