Mathnasium of Laurel wants to introduce you to our Owner, Barry Fausnaugh, Owner

Q: Why did you choose to own a Mathnasium center? A: My wife Kathryn and I both had successful and long careers in the consulting field, and were looking to make a change. We both loved math and saw the opportunity with Mathnasium and jumped on it! We're so happy we did, as we find it very rewarding!

Q: What do you like about the city your Mathnasium center is located in? A: We love the diverse and vibrant community in and around the Laurel area. There are a lot of restaurants and it's convenient for shopping. It's also convenient to both DC and Baltimore!

Q: Can you think of any way that your center has positively impacted the community that it’s located in? A: We offer and support local PTAs with in-person and virtual math nights, as well as are happy to participate in local community events. Since we have just owned the Center for a little less than a year, and COVID restrictions on activities are still somewhat in effect, we've not been able to do as much as we'd like -- but we look forward to it!

Q: Did you like math when you were in grade school? A: Yes, I always enjoyed math and found it fun to solve problems. I especially liked geometry as it just seemed to make sense to me, and I could easily envision geometric shapes, problems, and solutions.

Q: What do you think you would have liked most about Mathnasium if you had attended when you were in grade school? A: I would have loved the self-confidence it would have built in me early on - in my own ability to tackle and solve complex problems.

Q: One last question, what’s something fun you enjoy doing in Laurel? A: My wife Kathryn and I can frequently be found trying out different local restaurants and venues, as well as going to events in and around the Laurel area. We also love the water, and can be found swimming, boating, or just relaxing by a river, bay or beach almost anytime of the year!"
