Word Problem Wednesday: Math Practice Makes Healthy Habits

May 23, 2018 | Laurelwood

Do you have healthy habits? This can mean a lot of different things: Eating and drinking foods that are good for you, exercising regularly, getting the right amount of sleep each night...and don’t forget your math! A little bit of math practice every day definitely counts as a healthy habit!

Today’s word problem challenge is all about healthy habits. Use your elementary school math skills such as multiplication, addition, subtraction, and money math to figure out how William’s new habit not only improves his health, but also saves him money!

Question: William used to drink 6 cans of soda per day, but he decided to replace his soda with bottled water. If a can of soda costs $0.85 and a bottle of water costs $0.75, then how much money does William save each week by swapping from soda to water?

Be sure to check back tomorrow for the solution!
