Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Andy Phillips

Senior Instructor
Andy is currently in NCSU to pursue a degree in Business Administration with a Finance Concentration. He has completed a Course in Business Calculus, Statistics, and College Level PreCalc. He enjoys explaining mathematical concepts as well as real world application to his students. His goal is to provide effective instruction and help students achieve their academic goals. Andy enjoys video games, reading, and watching TV in his spare time. He's a huge Star Wars nerd and his Harry Potter house is Ravenclaw.

Daniel Yu

Senior Instructor
Daniel is currently in NC State in Computer Science. Daniel has taken Math 1, 2, and 3, as well as Precalculus, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC. Daniel loves finding ways to break down complicated problems into simpler, component parts, helping students solve them in bite-sized chunks. He loves watching the kids put a whole problem together, all on their own.

John Shockley

John is currently a student at NC State University to achieve his Bachelors in Computer Science. John has always had an affinity toward math growing up. He is interested in learning anything relating to STEM topics and is amazed by abstract concepts. John has challenged his capabilities by learning Calculus I, II, III, and soon linear algebra. He wants to give children the opportunity to understand math so they can hopefully love it as much as he does.

Jeremey Welty

Lead Instructor
Jeremy is currently a student at Wake Tech, pursuing an Associate's in Science, and plans on earning a Bachelor's in Mathematics or a scientific field. He has taken Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC, and will soon take Calculus III. He loves seeing the unique ways that students conceptualize math topics, and loves when students achieve that "Ohhhhh!" moment, and everything clicks in their head. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports and board games with his friends and family.

Elijah Gray

Elijah is currently attending Wake Tech Community College pursuing an Associate in Science Degree. He will then transfer to a university to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Physics. He loves Math, Physics, and Chemistry. Elijah is also an Eagle Scout. Elijah has taken Precalculus, AP Calculus AB and BC, as well as AP Statistics. Elijah hopes to use the knowledge he has gained in these classes to make it easier for students going through them. Elijah loves to play Pickleball and ride rollercoasters.

Malkaan Mehdi

Malkaan is currently a student at Wake Tech where she plans to earn an Associate's Degree in Science before transferring to North Carolina State University to pursue a career in Computer Science and Astrophysics. She has completed Calculus I-III, AP Statistics, and Physics and Linear Algebra courses at NCSU. Her purpose for working at Mathnasium is to invoke excitement for math in every student. Malkaan's favorite part about teaching math is hearing the students say "I know how to do this!" In her free time, she indulges in books and watches rom-coms.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
