Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Rylan Sampson

Assistant Center Director

Rylan holds a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Mathematics, teaching courses from algebra to calculus and earning a Superior Teaching Award in 2020. They joined Mathnasium in 2021, inspired by how games and puzzles make math engaging.

In three years, they’ve seen students’ skills and confidence grow through the program. Outside of work, Rylan enjoys tea, retro video games, tabletop RPGs, and spending time with their cat, Maggy.

Rex Schoolcraft

Regional Director

Rex holds degrees in Mathematics and Secondary Education from the University of Wyoming. A former high school math teacher, he was drawn to Mathnasium for its approach to teaching that matches his own way of thinking about math.

He thrives in a role that helps thousands of kids every day. Outside the center, Rex enjoys reading, playing guitar, simulation games, and doting on his dog.

Jeff McCabe

President

Jeff earned a degree in Economics before pursuing a master’s in Education, leading to a decade of teaching math at the high school and college levels. He later worked in operations and training for national restaurant brands before returning to math education with Mathnasium.

When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife of 28 years, their two dogs, and visiting their three adult children.

James Temple

CEO

James developed a love for math in school and earned his degree from the University of Virginia before serving seven years in the U.S. Air Force. While there, he began tutoring homeschooled children, deepening his appreciation for teaching math.

He later earned his MBA from UVA’s Darden School of Business and now leads Mathnasium, driven by his passion for helping students overcome frustration and succeed in math.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.
