Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Connor Jacobson

Center Director
Prior to joining Mathnasium as an instructor in 2023, Connor most recently served as the national expansion leader for a math tutoring non-profit. In that position, Connor recruited and trained tutors, managed and counseled staff, outreached to and coordinated with schools, and developed corporate relationships, among other responsibilities in order to provide quality supplemental math education to students in need across the country. He also spent the first part of his career working in data analytics, financial consulting, strategic operations, and risk projection model development, giving Connor plenty of real-world math examples when students ask, "when will I ever need to know this in life?!" Connor is a proud alum of Northwestern University, where he won a Big Ten championship as a member of the Wildcats men's soccer team. When not at Mathnasium, you can often find Connor at a dog park with his pup Nala, or playing with his niece and nephews. Connor is very passionate about the logical reasoning and critical thinking aspects of brain development, and he is focused on helping his center's students master skills as efficiently as possible by making math easy to understand, while fostering an environment where learning math feels fun!

Kelsey Sternberg

Education Coordinator
Kelsey holds a BA in Mathematics and Spanish from Taylor University. She has worked for Mathnasium since 2016, and has worked for centers in four different states! Kelsey grew up in Holland, Michigan, and has loved math ever since she was young. She loves sharing her passion for the beauty of mathematics and the fun of problem solving with students, and equally importantly, helping to build their self-confidence! In her free time, Kelsey likes to play board games, go for walks outside (preferably in warm, sunny weather), and talk with loved ones.

Jide Sonuga

Lead Instructor
Jide is currently a Junior at DePaul University, pursuing degrees in both Secondary Education as well as Mathematics, with previous experience as an engineering student at University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, with current experience up to Multivariable Calculus. He has been tutoring math for 6 years, starting in 2018 with volunteering at a local elementary school, and professional tutoring in 2021, primarily specializing in SAT preparation. Born and raised in Chicago, Jide spends his free time cycling the lakefront, exploring farmers markets, and doing a bit of studying while riding the L.

Kathryn

Instructor
Kathryn is a senior at Loyola University Chicago majoring in Applied Mathematics and Communications. Her favorite math classes are ordinary differential equations and mathematical modeling. Fun fact: she’s on six organizations' executive boards for her school! More notably, Kathryn has held research grants through the National Science Foundation and from her school, where she presented research at the Joint Mathematics Meeting, the National Conference for Undergraduate Research, the American Women in Mathematics Summit, and the Mathematics Association of America’s MAATHfest, and is now working on getting her second publication. In her free time, Kathryn can be found with her sorority sisters around campus, applying to graduate programs in biotechnology/computational biology, and going on various roadtrips with her friends.

Nathan

Instructor
Nathan is a senior at Lane Tech. He has loved his high school math and science courses, such as Calc 3 and other fun electives like Aerospace, engineering design, and AP computer science. He is also a mentor in the science fair through a school program. Nathan hopes to major in engineering in college. In addition to academics, Nathan also loves to play hockey and lacrosse and in his free time, as well as spend time with friends, bowl, and go to country music concerts.

Noah

Instructor
Noah is a senior at Northside College Preparatory High School, currently taking AP Calculus BC. He has always loved math and the teamwork behind solving problems with others. He hopes to help spark the same enjoyment and confidence in others at Mathnasium. In his free time, he enjoys biking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Anujin

Instructor
Anujin is a senior at Northside College Preparatory High School. She plans on majoring in Applied Math and Economics in her pursuit of higher education. Her favorite class she’s taken so far is Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, since it opened her eyes to so many different ways that math could be applied, not only in real life but also in abstract concepts. She remembers sitting at the dining room table as a child, practicing math, and celebrating whenever she answered a problem correctly. Due to this, she has grown to love math, and wants others to love math as well.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
