Josh Dennis

Assistant Center Director
Josh is currently taking Calculus 3 at Utah State University. He competed in Science Olympiad for 5 years during Junior High and High School. He also was selected as the 2021 Wasatch Front Regional Sterling Scholar for Skilled and Technical Sciences. Josh has previously worked with the WSU prep STEM camp program as a Program Assistant, helping as a TA for the Physics class. I love dance and Color Guard, I've been doing it for three years.

Fun Fact: I have never broken a bone in my body

Favorite Number: pi- it is a really intriguing number that shows up in so many things, more than just circles and spheres. It is used in angles, coordinate systems, and even shows up in higher dimensions as well as many branches of physics!

Education: Josh is currently double majoring in Physics and Mechanical Engineering with an Aerospace emphasis.

Why I love Mathnasium: I enjoy seeing people make connections between math and the real world. Being able to understand what is going on and predict what is going to happen is a valuable life skill that math helps you develop, and I enjoy helping children develop those skills.

Aimee Schaelling

Lead Instructor
I have taken Calculus I, II, & III, linear algebra, differential equations, discrete math, and abstract algebra. I served a full-time mission for my church in Denver, CO for 18 months where I learned Spanish, I have earned a full ride scholarship, and I was in Honors Society in high school. I am also a chemistry tutor. In my free time I enjoy listening to music, reading, playing pickleball, hiking, playing the piano, and watching reality tv.

Fun Fact: I have traveled to half of the 50 states

Favorite Number: 2, it's the only prime number that is also even!

Education: I'm a junior at USU studying Chemistry Education with minors in Math and Spanish

Why I love Mathnasium: I enjoy working with kids and helping them feel more confident in their ability to do hard things!

Emilyn Watkins

Instructor
I'm currently taking AP Calculus AB. I've taken all the high school math courses that are prerequisites to calculus. I'm president of the debate team and I also run cross country. I have also been teaching piano lessons for 5 years. I love to read and play board games.

Fun Fact: I have lived in 3 different states.

Favorite Number: I like the number 6. I won a game in elementary school with the dice roll of 6. I've liked it ever since.

Education: I am a junior at Ridgeline High School.

Why I love Mathnasium: I love working with kids and I also love math. Mathnasium brings the two together.

Zach Marshall

Instructor
I've taken college algebra and trigonometry, and I am currently taking calculus. I participated in Cyber Patriot during high school and placed 2nd in the gold tier in 2019. I enjoy blacksmithing, programming, and playing video games.

Fun Fact: I've written software that will be controlling a space satellite.

Favorite Number: 24. It has a lot of nice factors, and in general a pretty number.

Education: I currently have an associates in science and am working on a computer science bachelor's degree at USU.

Why I love Mathnasium: I really enjoy being able to help the kids and see the progress they make. Seeing the kids grow in their confidence in math is one of my favorite things about working at mathnasium.

Elizabeth Hutchinson

Instructor
I am currently in Calculus II and I completed Calc I in high school. I was part of the marching band and indoor Drumline in high school. I also taught french horn and piano in high school. I love music, being outdoors, learning, and reading.

Fun Fact: I have been paragliding!

Favorite Number: 57, it always shows up

Education: I am a freshman at Utah State University pursuing a degree in biochemistry and a minor in finance

Why I love Mathnasium: I love kids, and teaching them how to become good problem-solvers is essential to the person they will become.

Kassidy Shumway

Regional Operations Director / Owner
Kassidy Shumway grew up in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University in 2011. While at BYU, Kassidy earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering, was a TA in the math department, and also found time to be an All-American and a team captain and member of the BYU Women's Soccer Team. Kassidy has many years of experience coaching children of all ages in soccer. She has been helping students at Mathnasium since January 2013. Kassidy and her husband have two kids and two active dogs.

Fun Fact: Is in a video on YouTube with over 6 million views

Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from BYU

Why I love Mathnasium: I love helping kids realize that math can be fun. My favorite part of my job is going into elementary schools and putting on Math Nights. Laughing and having fun with kids while we do math is so rewarding!

Reed Brown

Owner
Reed has always loved math and enjoys helping kids learn to love math and how to use math in their daily lives. Reed earned a BS of Electrical Engineering degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Business Administration degree at Boise State University. Reed has spent over 25 years as a successful engineering and operations executive at Hewlett Packard, Quantum, and Iomega. In 2004, he decided to test his entrepreneurial skills and created Matchbin (now Radiate Media), a successful internet software company. Over the last 10 years, Reed has been active in the Utah technology community. As a member of the Governor's Technology Initiative Advisory Board for the State of Utah, he has helped to grow funding for engineering programs at Utah Universities and Colleges. Reed and his team is committed to helping children grow their interest and confidence in math and prepare them for a successful college education and career in technology, business, finance, medical, manufacturing, science, biology, or other fields that require strong math skills.

Fun Fact: Decided to become an Electrical Engineer because of 8th grade shop project making a DC motor

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from BYU and Masters of Business Administration degree from Boise State University

Aubrey Bowers

Instructor
I have taken Calculus 1, 2, and 3, Linear Algebra, Stats 3000, and Stats 5200. I am currently taking Stats 5100, Differential Equations, and Intro to Probability! I was third runner up in the Distinguished Young Women of Mini-Cassia scholarship program, winning an academic, self-expression, and interview award. I was also in the top 10 in my graduating class at Burley High School. I earned an award for my PSAT score and was able to receive a full tuition scholarship to Utah State due to my SAT score and GPA. Growing up, I was always asked to tutor my neighbor's children and even my friends! While none of these have been "official" tutoring positions, I've always wanted to officially tutor for a company like Mathnasium. I love hiking, camping, skiing, and playing the piano and guitar!

Fun Fact: I can walk on my hands almost better than I can walk on my feet.

Favorite Number: My favorite number is pi! What's not to love about an infinite decimal with no repeating patterns? Every time you ask me how many digits I know, it will probably be different because I memorize a few at a time.

Education: I am currently a sophomore at Utah State studying statistics with an actuarial emphasis! This major comes with a math minor by default. I graduated from Burley High School in 2022 and plan on graduating from Utah State in 2026!

Why I love Mathnasium: I have four younger siblings, and I have always loved helping them with their math homework. With this job, I get to continue doing what I love even though I live far away from my siblings now!
