Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

James Cawthorne

Center Director
James grew up in Virginia (the state) and has lived/worked in 9different cities across 7 states. He has attended and earned degrees from North Carolina State (BS in Pulp and Paper Technology & BS in Chemical Engineering), Western Michigan (MS in Paper and Printing Engineering & Ph.D.-ABD in Paper and Imaging Science), and Purdue University (Ph.D. in Engineering Education). My educational focus is the alignment between content, assessment, and pedagogy and the creation of a positive learning environment for students. When not at Mathnasium James likes to do advanced Sudoku, read, and cook. A little-known fact about James is that he once made a boat (10ft long by 3 ft wide) out of cardboard and glue. Then he had to test it on a real lake by sitting in it and paddling for a period of time.

Taylor Keuch

Assistant Center Director
TJ traded in “the big apple” for the “mini apple” when they moved from New York to Minneapolis. TJ’s favorite thing about math is “It provides a comfort, knowing that life’s numerical difficulties can be approached from a strong foundation of prior knowledge.” TJ attended Wright State University and achieved a B.S. in Middle Childhood Education, concentrating in mathematics and social studies. Then they attended the City College of New York and achieved a M.S. in Middle Mathematics Education Specialist. TJ spent three years teaching 6th grade math in the NYC public education system before moving here to Minneapolis. TJ values spending time with their partner and 7 year old corgi and enjoys running role playing games for friends and family.

Trenton Johnson

Lead Instructor
Trenton has always been passionate about mathematics, whether completing classwork, participating in Math Team, or teaching mathematics to peers. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and working professionally as an accountant, Trenton pursued other opportunities where his love of numbers could be satisfied.  Teaching math at Mathnasium to students of different ages is even more fun than teaching one's peers. Trenton also enjoys playing piano, singing, reading, and playing various types of games.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
