What do you like most about learning?
I love the way that learning allows us to broaden our understanding of both ourselves and the world around us and then, in turn, we are able to share that knowledge with others and learn from them as well!
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
For many of our students, coming to Mathnasium is the first time they are learning math at a level and pace that aligns with their own math journey. The most rewarding part of this role is seeing the positive shift in their confidence & growth when math is a presented in a way that really "clicks" for each individual student!

Algebra
How do you make learning math fun for students?
My number one goal is always to foster a positive, fun, & supportive learning environment for all of our students! I love getting to know each one of our students and helping them find ways to make their time at our center meaningful and impactful to their own individual interests and motivations.
Education:
Nicolet graduate, currently going to MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College), with the goal to transfer to UW Milwaukee!

What do you like most about learning?
The ah-ha moment after when everything suddenly clicks! I also love watching the students grow as they learn and build on previous learning!
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
I've worked with a couple students who hated math at first, but after working together for a bit I actively saw the change in the students and how they view math, and have had said students come in and say they're excited to work on math and really enjoy math now! I also worked with students who weren't doing the best in school, but have started getting A's on their tests which is amazing!
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
Pre-calc and algebra 1 & 2
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I always play games with the students! I also make an effort to get to know the students and have fun conversations and things they like and joke around with them during their sessions!

What do you like most about learning?
What I like most about learning is making connections to the physical world and gaining a better understanding of what is going on around me.
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
I believe the biggest impact I've had on a student's ability to become proficient in math is building their confidence. The first step to improvement is to believe that it's possible, and so helping to strengthen students' self confidence in their ability to learn and improve on math concepts is what I would view as the largest impact I have had.
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
I enjoy teaching algebra the most. I think it serves as one of the most crucial stepping stones in a student's math journey, being both a culmination of many of the arithmetic skills learned prior as well as the foundation for any higher level math. Both in and outside the classroom and workplace, I use algebra on a daily basis and enjoy having the opportunity to share this important skill with students.
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I make learning fun for students by trying to connect and be friendly with students in order to make them feel the most comfortable. I also will remind students of the rewards they will receive for completing their work and support their choices in rewards and share their enthusiasm and excitement.

What do you like most about learning?
I like making connections about the learning content to other fields/subjects and real life.
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
I remember teaching one student about reasoning in groups and how the groups need to stay proportional as we increase their amounts. We tried different methods on each problem until one just made complete sense to her and she started flying through that concept, which had initially been a challenging one, and it was really amazing to see.
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
Reasoning with fractions
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I keep the environment open and relaxed so students don’t feel pressured or stuck doing one thing. We chat about things other than math throughout the session and I try to teach multiple different approaches whenever possible to meet the students where they’re at.

I love the joy of finally using a formula/concept correctly.
What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
I question the students’ approaches, even in some questions when they get it right, to see their thought process and effectiveness with solving problems.
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
I enjoy teaching Algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and precalculus.
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I try my best to keep the mood light and encourage kids while they’re working. If they are struggling a lot with a problem or certain type of problem, I encourage them to take a small break on other problems rather than dwelling on a single one.

The biggest impact I’ve had so far is helping clear a student’s misconception regarding long division.

By always having a positive attitude, using manipulatives, and using incentives to motivate students!

How do you make learning math fun for students?
I just try my best to come off as a friendly person, and try to get to know them so when I help it’s not just a stranger teaching them.
