Real-World Math | The Number Three and Lines

Mar 22, 2021 | Mesa South

Math Monday📐

Today we are exploring real world examples of the number three and lines. _________________________________

Three: The smallest odd prime number. A triangular number (sum of all integers from 1 to 2): 3 = 1+2. In real life, we of course use this number to count and make groups, but the number three is also used in many cultures to represent balance and life.

_________________________________

Line: is straight (no bends), has no thickness, and extends in both directions without end (infinitely). We can look at the horizon and see it spanning infinitely to either side of us. We can also use lines to represent time.

What real-world examples can you find in your day-to-day life? Applying mathematical concepts to tangible objects can help students of all ages understand exactly what they mean!
