Maxwell Svonkin

Hello, my name is Max and I’ve been working here at Mathnasium since spring of 2022. I’m currently a student at Pasadena City College majoring in Math with a focus on education. Ever since I was young I knew that any career path I’d follow would involve math and decided to head into teaching to help people develop the same passion for math that I’ve had for years.

Roula Nahouli

My name is Roula Nahouli, a mother of four children. Since childhood, mathematics has been my passion and obsession, and I have been fortunate enough to turn this passion into a fruitful career. Thanks to my extensive experience in dealing with children, I have acquired unique skills in communicating and interacting with them in an effective and enjoyable way. Alongside my love for intellectual challenges, I am thrilled by climbing in nature and swimming; finding in the sea a presence of tranquility and calmness that restores my balance. My family is a source of strength and pride for me. I am extremely grateful for the blessing of having my children in my life, and I cannot imagine my life without them. Thanks to God, I enjoy every moment spent with them, as they provide warmth that fills me with happiness.

Hi! My name is Magdalena. I love working with children because I enjoy getting to know them and connecting with them through teaching. Making them realize that they have potential deep in their minds fulfills my purpose as a teacher. I find it amazing how we can inspire these children to channel their abilities by using math as a tool. My hobbies include listening to music, singing, and watching dramas & kung fu movies. I also love eating cake and drink boba.

Hello! I am Ben, I am a computer science major with a minor in math. I've been tutoring students for over 4 years because I want to foster in others the same love for math that I have. My plans are to enter the QA field, since I've always liked how much you can glean about software through glitch exploitation. In my free time, I listen to music, read, and talk to my friends.

Hello! My name is Ariel. I have been working at Mathnasium for two years, but I started out as a student in this center four years ago. With the invaluable advice of my mentors and personal experience I gained from accelerating two grade levels in math, I hope to empower students to overcome their academic struggles while sparking a passion for learning. Mathnasium has taught me that math is much more than just a subject: it is an opportunity for students to explore, grow, and reach for the future they envision! In addition to math tutoring, I am a competitive swimmer, serve as club President for UN Foundation Girl Up, and spend lots of my free time traveling with my family.

Hello! I'm Carlos Miranda. I have a passion for working with students that stems from my experience in my high school debate team, working with other high school debate teams and tutoring during college. After acquiring a bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from Cal State LA, I am working on improving my ability to teach mathematics. I hope to give knowledge and inspiration to students who are working to improve their math skills by providing a safe and positive space to do so here at Mathnasium. Aside from math, I enjoy spending my time going to the gym, listening to music, and using my computer.

Hello, my name is Justin Phung. I am currently a Computer Science major attending California State University, Long Beach. I love working at Mathnasium because I like math. My goal in tutoring here at Mathnasium is to extend that joy to other children who may not share that sentiment initially. I aim to do this by creating a fun and engaging space to learn.

Hello! My name is Kim. My main interest in working at Mathnasium comes from a combination of my passion to motivate the next generation of youth holistically along with my personal love of math and logic. I started working with students when I was still a high school student. After getting more years of experience in college, I graduated with a degree in both Philosophy and Cognitive Science. My goal is to slowly figure out my path in becoming a part of the education system in some way as a career. When I am not calculating or analyzing for fun, I enjoy volunteering at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and binge-watching human-interest stories on YouTube.

Hello, my name is Peter. Throughout my life, I’ve always had a burning passion for mathematics. I love understanding different math concepts and the logic behind them. I always try to be involved in any math programs that my schools offer. Some math extracurriculars I have been a part of are math clubs, competitive math teams, and math peer tutoring. I enjoy working with students because it gives me the opportunity to share my passion for math with others and help them throughout their academic journey.

Hi there! I'm Robert, and I’m thrilled to be teaching at Mathnasium. There’s nothing quite like the joy I feel when a student finally grasps a math concept I've taught them. Math isn't just a subject to me; it’s a world full of fascinating methods and countless ways to solve equations. My mission is to help students not only understand math but also enjoy it as a fun and engaging experience.

When I’m not immersed in the world of numbers, you might find me speaking Mandarin Chinese, hitting the pool for a game of water polo, or enjoying a swim. I also love acting, playing golf, chess, skateboarding, and traveling through Asia. And let's not forget my passion for cooking and food and trying all new cuisines from around the world!

Helping other people has always brought me joy; helping students both brings me joy and improves the students' math abilities. I'm also fascinated with and enjoy learning about cars. I have played the violin for 8 years and I play in the orchestra now. Occasionally I love to play basketball or soccer with my friends, which is one way we hang out. Hello, my name is Yuki Yasunaga. I'm in my second year at Citrus College and majoring in business administration. Growing up, I've always been part of tutoring curriculums outside of school and have personally experienced the advantages it can provide students in their education, especially in mathematics. Working as a math tutor here at Mathnasium allows me to project the enthusiasm I have for pursuing mathematical confidence onto the students and be able to directly support their academic journey. Being able to make this difference in student's lives through tutoring and hearing the pride in their voices over improved test scores is the most rewarding part.
