Matt attended James Madison University in Virginia for Mathematics with a minor in Logic where he developed a passion for math and teaching, alike. Matt knows from experience what it's like to struggle in math because he struggled in math as a kid, as well! For many years as an adult and throughout college, he worked hard at understanding mathematics and knows that virtually anyone can become good at math!
Matt's favorite subject to teach is geometry because it is the beginning of understanding why many of the things in the world work the way we think they do.

"Son: Dad, I'm cold!
Dad: Go stand in the corner.
Son: But, Dad! Why?!
Dad: Because the corner is 90 degree.
Interesting Fact: On the weekends, he does Live-Action Roleplay!

Kendall Zickefoose
Assistant Center Director
Kendall attended Stevenson University for Math and Science Education, with an emphasis on 4th through 9th grade STEM. An avid connoisseur of snacks, one of her joys in life is Coca Cola! She also loves cats and all sorts of films and TV shows!
Kendall loves teaching math because math helps build everything! She loves that she gets to help others make sense of their world!
Her favorite subject to teach is from Prealgebra to algebra I because going from number sentences to expressions and equations is so fun and a big mile stone!

Interesting Fact: Kendall played Basketball all the way through high school, and even coached for a short while!
Kristen Ellis

Kristen Ellis started geeking out on math at a young age and went on to major in mathematics in college. She has been a math educator for over 2.5 decades, teaching kids, teaching teachers, writing curriculum, running math clubs, and generally spreading math joy everywhere she goes.
Favorite Number: 24 (a beautifully composite abundant number)
Favorite Math Joke: Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 “8” 9. (classic nerdy math joke)
Interesting Fact: Kristen ran in a Pi Race, which was 3.1415 miles on 03/14/15. She did not win the race, but won a chocolate pie for reciting the most digits of pi (over 100) in a fierce competition among many other mathletes.
Madi Alexander

Madi is a senior at Linganore High School with a love for anything science or literature. Her free time is spent with her nose in a new book or busying herself with a new art piece. She enjoys being in the presence of other people on top of learning about and trying new things everyday.
She enjoys teaching math because of its close ties in everyday life. Helping people make the connection from math to life outside the classroom is always a fulfilling experience.
She enjoys teaching algebra 1 the most as it’s almost like a puzzle and is never not satisfying when solving for variables.
Favorite Math Joke: Why did 1/5 go to the masseuse? Because it was two-tenths!
Interesting Fact: Madi will never back down from learning a new instrument. Her favorite instrument (and longest learned) is the clarinet.
Ethan Sanders

Ethan loved math his entire life and have always been pretty good at it. He graduated South Carroll High School in 2024 and am now working towards a certification in personal training. He spend all his free time lifting weights or watching anime.
Ethan love teaching math because its awesome! He believes that most of the time people don't like math because they don't understand how simple it is. Ethan feels that it's an amazing feeling to change someone perspective on math and watch them slowly understand concepts more and more.
Ethan's favorite math subject teach is 100% algebra. He states that algebra is the foundation of all high level math and is the first subject where you realize you can do a lot more with math than you think. He loves that you can use algebra to solve an infinite amount of problems.
Favorite Math Joke: if you're every cold just go to the corner of the room, its 90 degrees there!
Interesting Fact: Ethan competes in powerlifting at a national level. He also has a 5 foot ball python who is the most precious thing in the world!
Amanda Brooks

Amanda is a former middle school math teacher with 2 daughters. Her oldest is taking classes at FCC, and her youngest is a junior at Linganore High School. They have a sweet 13 year old tuxedo cat named Benny, and a wild 4 year old dog named Westley. Amanda enjoys spending time at her girls' soccer games and taking long walks with Westley!
Math has always made sense to Amanda. There is only one right answer, but you can use so many different strategies to get to that answer! She loves the flexibility in thinking, and problem-solving that you can use to find solutions.
Algebra I is definitely her favorite. She enjoys using graphing to physically see the equations and model word problems.
Favorite Math Joke: Why does Algebra improve your dancing skills? Because you can use algo-rhythm!
Interesting Fact: Amanda has been skydiving - ONCE.
