A confident-looking explanation isn't automatically a correct one.
That means students need enough mathematical understanding to question an answer.
Does the solution make sense? Can I explain how it got there? Can I solve the problem another way?
Those questions require something AI can't replace the student's own mathematical thinking.
So, Should Kids Use AI for Math?
Think of AI like a calculator, dictionary, or educational resource. It can be useful, but it shouldn't replace the thinking that builds the skill.
A simple rule for parents is:
Try first. Ask second. Explain afterward.
Encourage your child to attempt the problem independently before turning to AI. If they use an AI tool, have them compare the explanation with their own work. Most importantly, ask them to explain the solution back to you in their own words.
Because the goal of math homework isn't simply to finish the worksheet.
