Nick van Vliet

Operations Director

Nick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Finance from Cal State Northridge. He joined Mathnasium in 2014 after learning about its powerful impact on student learning. After serving as Center Director in Irvine, Diamond Bar, and Phoenix, he returned home to Santa Clarita to help students locally. 

Nick is passionate about building an encouraging and engaging math environment where students grow their skills and confidence. He loves teaching, coaching, and challenging students to reach their potential. In his spare time, he enjoys sports, snowboarding, reading, BBQs, and competitive games of any kind.

Sherin Yueksel

District Manager

Sherin earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UC Berkeley. She began with Mathnasium in 2021 as an instructor and quickly advanced to Assistant Director, playing a key role in opening Mathnasium of Valencia. 

She pursued a full-time career with Mathnasium to create positive change in her community. Sherin values building inclusive spaces where students feel confident and supported. In her free time, she enjoys cooking new recipes, shopping, and spending quality time with her family.

Sam

Lead Instructor

Sam graduated from Boise State University in December 2023 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and a minor in Business. His passion for math and helping others led him to join Mathnasium. 

Sam enjoys watching his students improve over time and loves making personal connections through teaching. Outside of work, he spends his time reading, gaming with friends, and relaxing with family.

Nick

Lead Instructor

Nick is currently a senior attending Saugus High School. He is currently dual enrolling at Saugus and COC and planning to major in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Throughout Nick’s high school path he helped friends and strangers to see math the way he saw it and helped them succeed with problems they didn’t think they could ever do. In his free time Nick likes to play sports such as volleyball and basketball as well as spend time with his friends and family.

Shabana

Lead Instructor

Shabana has been part of Mathnasium since 2021. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSU Northridge and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Education. Shabana is passionate about teaching and enjoys helping students build confidence and develop a positive outlook toward math. With experience teaching in elementary classrooms, she brings valuable insight into school-based math instruction and uses that knowledge to support students one-on-one. In her free time, Shabana enjoys spending time with her family, watching movies, reading, playing board games, and golfing.

Jodeen

Instructor

Jodeen is currently a junior attending Saugus High School and wants to major in computer science in the future. Throughout high school, she's been successful in math classes and looks forward to tutoring others and helping them become confident in math. In her free time, Jodeen enjoys crocheting, hanging out with friends, and playing video games.  

Andy

Instructor

Andy is a current junior at Hart High School. He hopes to attend a UC and major in Mechanical Engineering. He has always had a passion for math and enjoys teaching others subjects he has excelled in. He enjoys working out, playing tennis, spending time with friends and family, and cooking in his spare time.

Rafael

Instructor

Rafael has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Thomas Edison State University. Rafael wants to help build students' confidence through effective teaching and positive reinforcement. He's committed to helping students unlock their full potential at Mathnasium. In his free time, Rafael enjoys playing video games, sharing jokes with friends, and playing volleyball at the park.

Baily

Instructor

Baily is studying at College of the Canyons to become a Biomedical Engineer, and also competes as a member of COC's Women's Golf team. She hopes to be able to share her love of math with students by helping them build their understanding of the subject. In addition to Golf, her hobbies include theatre, arts, and crafts such as crochet and baking. 

Natalia

Instructor

Natalia is a student at COC majoring in Electrical Engineering. Natalia joined Mathnasium because math has always been her favorite subject. She wants to use this passion to guide and encourage students as they learn and build confidence. In her free time, Natalia enjoys spending time with friends and family, baking, taking pictures, and shopping.

Isaac

Instructor

Isaac is currently a Junior at Valencia High School, hoping to study Mechanical Engineering at a UC. He has always enjoyed the application of math in real life and the process of learning difficult math. He hopes to instill this passion in the people he teaches. He enjoys working out, playing guitar, and spending time with friends in his free time.

Elisha

Instructor

Elisha is a Mechanical Engineering student at College of the Canyons and a student-athlete competing in both track and soccer. He is passionate about helping students build confidence in math and in life. He is passionate about helping students understand math while making the learning process enjoyable. In his free time, he enjoys writing music, skiing, playing basketball, spending time with friends and family, and making videos.  


Lydia

Instructor

Lydia is a student at Pasadena City College currently studying linguistics and speech pathology. She’s passionate about math and loves working with kids, so she loves being a tutor at Mathnasium. Lydia is a big fan of music, reading, and studying other languages. She also loves playing games! Some of her favorites are chess and dominoes.
