Mathnasium & Greenlight Financial Literacy Month Partnership: In-Center Activities & a National Sweepstakes

Mar 31, 2026 | Oceanside North

This April marks Financial Literacy Month, and Mathnasium is teaming up with Greenlight, the leading family finance and safety app, to celebrate.

Together, we are bringing exciting hands-on in-center activities and a national sweepstakes, all built around one shared belief: financial confidence starts early.

That confidence does not appear overnight. The skills children build today, whether in math or money management, shape the decisions they will make tomorrow.

Read on to discover everything happening this April and how your family can make the most of it.

The Partnership

The money habits children build early translate into financial decisions, independence, and confidence for the rest of their lives. That idea is what brought Mathnasium and Greenlight together this Financial Literacy Month.

Mathnasium has spent decades helping K-12 students of all skill levels become confident math thinkers, equipped with the problem-solving and critical thinking skills that serve them in school and beyond.

Greenlight has built a platform that puts those skills into practice, giving kids real tools to earn, save, spend, give, and invest under parental guidance.

Together, this April, we are putting both into action through hands-on in-center activities and a national sweepstakes designed to bring financial literacy to life for kids and families across the country.

Why Math and Financial Literacy Go Hand in Hand

Math is often described as the language of logic, and nowhere is that more evident than in how we manage money every day.

Every financial decision, from budgeting and saving to comparing prices and planning for the future, requires the kind of structured thinking that solid math skills make possible.

According to the Council for Economic Education's 2026 Survey of the States, 39 states now require students to take a personal finance course to graduate, up from 35 in 2024.

This speaks to a growing recognition that financial literacy is not an elective extra but a core life skill. And like any skill, it grows with practice.

A Brigham Young University study found that children who are given real opportunities to manage money and make financial decisions grow into more confident, financially independent young adults.

But to make those decisions well, even at a young age, math has to come first.

The earlier children develop both math confidence and money skills, the better prepared they are for the financial decisions that define adult life. This April, that is exactly what we are setting out to support.

Financial Literacy Activities at Your Local Mathnasium

Throughout April, Mathnasium centers are turning the math and money connection into hands-on learning with two special activities designed to make financial literacy as engaging as math itself.

Problem of the Week Activity Sheets

Every week in April, students receive a co-branded Problem of the Week activity sheet as part of their regular Mathnasium session. Each sheet ties math skills to real-world financial concepts in a way that reinforces what they are already learning.

Students can take them home too, a simple way to keep the conversation going as a family.

Financial Literacy Power Hour

Mathnasium centers also have the option to host a Financial Literacy Power Hour this month, specifically designed for students in grades 2 through 6. Check with your local Mathnasium to confirm availability and reserve a spot.

In just one hour, students rotate through four hands-on stations:

  • Earning: understanding where money comes from

  • Saving: learning why and how to set money aside

  • Spending: making smart choices with what you have

  • Credit: an age-appropriate introduction to borrowing responsibly

At each station, students collect a stamp in their personal passport. By the end of the hour, they walk away with something tangible and a new way of thinking about money.

About Mathnasium

Mathnasium is a math-only learning center empowering K-12 students of all skill levels to excel in math.

Behind each of our learning programs is a proprietary teaching approach called the Mathnasium Method™.

To help each student unlock their true math potential, our approach includes:

  1. Personalized Learning: Enrollment begins with a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints strengths, knowledge gaps, and overall math thinking. This informs a learning plan customized to each student's needs, taking them step by step from where they are to where they need to be.

  2. Teaching for Understanding: Our tutors present math concepts in natural, everyday language and use a mix of verbal, visual, mental, tactile, and written techniques to help students truly make sense of math, not just memorize it.

  3. Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: We give students space to work through challenges on their own before stepping in to guide them. When we do, we explain both the how and the why, building problem-solving skills and critical thinking tools they can use in math and in life.

  4. A Supportive, Fun Environment: Our tutors are skilled in both the technical and emotional sides of teaching, knowing when to challenge and when to encourage. Game-based activities and reward systems keep students engaged, motivated, and having fun along the way.

The results speak for themselves:

  • 94% of parents report an improvement in their child’s math skills and understanding

  • 93% of parents report improved attitude toward math after attending Mathnasium

  • 90% of students saw an improvement in their school grades

If you want your child to build the math foundation behind smart money decisions, your local Mathnasium center is ready to help.
