About Belle Valley Elementary School

While Belle Valley is one of the largest elementary districts in the area, we still enjoy small town traditions and hold to the values that support an inclusive society. Set on forty acres, Belle Valley has one of the newest state-of-the-art school buildings in St. Clair County. The grounds offer ball fields, a quarter mile track, an observatory with a deep space telescope, and a fully functional greenhouse. The building is equipped with modern science labs, computer labs, sports training/weight room, band, music, and art rooms. Our instructional practices support the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) model and we also offer IMSA (Illinois Math and Science Academy) curriculum in 4th through 8th grade. As a certified flight instructor I am excited to offer flight simulator training for 7th and 8th grade students who are seeking a more indepth STEM experience. These industry standard simulators were purchased through an Air Force grant and support our desire to bring career related real-world learning to Belle Valley students.

It is our belief that the modern facility we enjoy coupled with a progressive vision for new and innovative programs will help us provide a learning environment that is conducive in developing the critical thinking skills needed for our next generation learners. Our motto is: “Don’t just dream it….Build It.” Students must take 24 hours to graduate and have more than 100 courses to choose from. Students are required to take four years of theology and English. Three years are required for mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition, Health, Technology Skills, and Information Processing are all required courses for graduation. Two years of an art, music, or foreign language is necessary as well.

To fulfill Althoff's Mission Statement, a retreat each year is required for graduation. Freshmen and Sophomores attend a "Day of Recollection." Juniors attend a closed retreat that is overnight. Lastly, seniors participate in a Senior Service Project. For the first three weeks of January they spend their time giving back to the community. Popular places for this include day cares, grade schools, and nursing homes.
