It’s that special time of year when we come together to celebrate the educators who help shape our students' lives—Teacher Appreciation Week! At Mathnasium, we’re proud to support teachers all year long, and this May, we’re putting a spotlight on all the ways they go above and beyond.
The best teachers add confidence, subtract frustration, multiply curiosity, and divide learning into steps anyone can follow. They're the secret sauce that makes learning not only palatable, but an enjoyable activity that will help children thrive as they grow. We've seen firsthand the creativity and compassion teachers bring to their work, often under challenging circumstances; that dedication deserves a big celebration!
💐 Craft a Card for Your Teacher
We’re inviting all students to create personalized cards at the center this week—just one small way to say “thanks” to a great teacher. You can also decorate one at home with our printable template.
🎁 Gift Basket Giveaways
We've been collecting nominations from our students and their families over the past couple of weeks for a local teacher to win a special Mathnasium gift basket, and we'll be dropping that off this week! Learn more about this activity by asking a staff member next time you’re in the center!
📝 Team Teacher Shoutouts
We asked our team to share a memory of a teacher who changed their lives. Check out some of their stories here:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Dr. Chris Keller, the College Media Literacy professor at Cameron University. Dr. Keller was the most deeply passionate educator I had in school, and changed the way I view the world around me. The lessons he taught me resonate with me to this day, and continue to shape the way I carry myself through the world.
-Holden, Mathnasium of Broken Arrow
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Susan O'Dell from Union 6th/7th Grade Center. Susan was not a teacher of mine, but was my mentor teacher when I first started teaching. She won teacher of the year when I first arrived. I would not have survived my first year without her! She is good at what she does to the point that she makes it look effortless and I learned a lot about teaching from her.
-Noah, Mathnasium of Midtown Tulsa
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Zamor, who taught Calculus at Owasso High School. She employed a no nonsense teaching style that I really appreciated!
-Aline, Mathnasium of Owasso
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have two favorite teachers: Mrs. Thompson who taught Broadcasting at Charles Page High School and Dr. Vareberg who taught Communications at Northeastern State University. Mrs. Thompson fostered my love of sports broadcasting; she encouraged me to fine tune my creativity in the broadcasts I ran and trusted me to fix issues that came up during them. We still keep in touch almost 10 years later! Dr. Vareberg was my professor, colleague and research advisor during grad school. He is everything a good educator strives to be: inclusive, passionate, and understanding. I would not have made it through grad school if I did not have his guidance.
-Katie, Mathnasium of South Tulsa
Let’s fill this week with gratitude, kindness, and plenty of teacher love. To every educator: we appreciate all that you do and we thank you for it!
