Some backstory
Co-Owners
Kouy and Dena met and instantly bonded over their passion for Park City and the desire to root themselves deeper in their community as local business owners. Over months of discussions involving coffee and donuts, they observed that Park City had a wonderful surplus of athletic clubs and other extra curricular activities, but it seemed to be lacking supplemental education programs that benefit its younger population, specifically math related. Given their own experiences with Mathnasium via their own children, a Park City location felt like the perfect fit, and they haven’t looked back. With their shared love of learning, passion for inspiring our youth, and an entrepreneurial spirit, Dena and Kouy are thrilled to bring Mathnasium to Park City and make it the premier location for your kids to find their love for all things math!
Dena
Co-Owner
Dena holds a degree in Economics and has a professional background in adult learning consulting. Her interest in children’s education grew during the pandemic while supporting her two elementary-aged kids at home. After noticing they were missing key math concepts, she discovered Mathnasium and saw it as both the perfect academic solution and a meaningful business opportunity.
Inspired by Sal Khan’s mastery-based approach to learning, Dena felt compelled to bring Mathnasium to Park City and help local students build lifelong confidence and skills through math.
Kouy
Co-Owner
Kouy earned her B.A. in Psychology and a Master’s in Education from the University of Southern California. She taught in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District before transitioning out of the classroom, though she always missed helping students. When her daughter began struggling with math, Kouy found Mathnasium and was amazed by the transformation, not just in grades, but in confidence.
After moving to Park City and discovering there was no local center, she partnered with Dena to open one. Kouy is passionate about empowering students and families through meaningful math experiences.
Liam
Center Director
Liam graduated from Park City High School and earned a degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Utah. Since joining the Mathnasium team in 2023, he has held multiple roles, from Instructor to Lead Instructor and Education Director, before becoming Center Director.
He brings patience, clarity, and a deep enthusiasm for problem-solving to his work with students. Liam loves watching students grow in confidence as they master math concepts. Outside of Mathnasium, he enjoys skiing, backpacking, baking cinnamon rolls, and has a soft spot for polar bears and all things purple.
Katie
Assistant Center Director
Katie is the Assistant Center Director and holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah. Before joining Mathnasium, she worked as a tutor and teaching assistant, where she discovered her passion for helping students build math confidence. Originally from Utah, Katie also lived in Dublin, Ireland, before returning in 2020.
She brings strong academic insight and positive energy to the center. In her free time, Katie enjoys drawing, reading with her book clubs, and playing tabletop games. She also loves spending time with her cat, Yasha.
Greta
Lead Instructor
Greta is a Lead Instructor and a current sophomore at Park City High School. She moved to Park City at age three and has always enjoyed school, especially math and working with kids. At Mathnasium, she approaches every student interaction with energy and empathy, helping learners feel supported and capable.
Greta is also active in sports and the arts; she races mountain bikes, skis, and plays in the high school band and orchestra. She plans to graduate in 2026 and is excited to find ways to make a difference in the world.
Mia
Instructor
Mia moved to Park City in 2021 from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is a passionate, hardworking student and one in a family of four. Along with her family, Mia has traveled all around the world, from Africa to Italy and this coming year she plans to go to Switzerland and Japan. She enjoys skiing, playing competitive volleyball, baking, and most of all, Christmas. Mia is currently a junior at Park City High School and plans to graduate in the summer of 2026. Mia is very passionate when it comes to leadership and solving complex problems, which applies to the Mathnasium environment often. She hopes to provide a fun experience for all Mathnasium students as many amazing teachers did for her.
