Kavon

Center Director

I started peer tutoring as a high school freshman and have worked in many roles across multiple Mathnasium centers. I love helping students see math in a way that makes sense to them!

When I’m not at Mathnasium, I enjoy spending time with friends and my two big dogs—Duke, a hound, and his sister Daphne, a Great Dane. If I’m really bored, I challenge myself with extra math problems just for fun! My favorite number is 24 because it halves and quarters perfectly—and it’s been my favorite since childhood.

Barb

Though not a Colorado native, I’ve spent most of my life in this beautiful state. I hold bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Psychology and a Master’s in Secondary Curriculum and Instruction. For 29 years, I had the privilege of teaching high school math in Denver, working with students from over 40 countries. There’s nothing like seeing that “aha” moment when a concept clicks!

Outside of Mathnasium, I love golf, skiing, reading, and scuba diving. My favorite number? Any palindrome—I love the symmetry!

Teaching has always been my passion. I spent years in the Cherry Creek School District teaching third and fifth grade and was honored as Teacher of the Year at my school. After retiring, I missed working with kids, which led me to Mathnasium—where I love helping students grow and build confidence in math.

I hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration and a master’s in elementary education. Outside of Mathnasium, I enjoy scrapbooking, cooking, and spending time with my family, including my two dogs, Lucy and Lola, and my grandchildren, Elijah and Thomas.

Allison Shride

Owner / Executive Director

About me: I grew up in a family with a long line of entrepreneurs. I graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in mathematics and a teaching certification. Instead of using my teaching qualifications, I followed in my family's footsteps of being business owners and opened a retail store in Fort Collins at the age of 22. I've had a few different businesses along the way and discovered Mathnasium in late 2011. I opened the Parker center in January 2012. I have loved helping children with their understanding of math, and witnessing their increased confidence and self esteem!

Hobbies:  I have a deep love of animals and I enjoy spending my spare time with my 2 rescue dogs. I used to have two dogs who were certified "pet therapists." We spent many hours visiting hospitals to share some canine love with the patients.

I have always loved traveling, and one of my favorite ways to see the world is long distance cross-country walking trips.  My first trip was through part of Tuscany, Italy for about 60 miles.  I have also traveled to  Scotland  and walked/hiked through the highlands for 92 miles in 6 days.   While not a walking trip, I had a life-impacting trip to India.  I spent time in orphanages as well as a center for abandoned adults/seniors.  I did get some walking in though, as my trip wrapped up with a few days of hiking and camping in the Himalayas.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
