About me:

Hi. My name is Amber. I am a German-American who moved to the U.S. in the 3rd grade, and after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with my Economics and German degrees, I joined Teach for America to become a full-time teacher. While earning my masters in Secondary Math Education, I had the opportunity to be a full-time teacher of Math, STEM, and a semester of hybrid P.E.! In my downtime I am most likely outside enjoying small hikes and walks, reading, or playing Nintendo and indie games on my Switch. I also love to visit new places and in the future hope to see more of America and the world. Below are some more facts about me and my own math journey, Calc-u-l8r!

Why I love working at Mathnasium I love Mathnasium because of their commitment to individualized feedback, progression, and achievement built into the learning model. Having taught math in the classroom online and in-person I know that there is no one-size-fits-all strategy when learning and understanding these interrelated concepts, and Mathnasium helps students forge ahead.

Favorite Number My favorite number is 8! When I was young, 8 was my jersey number on my soccer team, and nowadays I enjoy how versatile it is as a written abbreviation :)

Favorite Math Joke I love math puns/jokes! One of my favorites: Why couldn't 1/5 finish their math exam? Because they were 2/10ths!

In 5 years I will be . . . . continuing to support math learners thrive and find success throughout their academic journey!

About me

While I’m not a Colorado native , I have spent most of my life in this beautiful state.  I attended Bear Creek High School, Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado at Denver.   I have two Bachelor’s degrees (Mathematics and Psychology) and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Secondary Mathematics.

Why I Love Working at Mathnasium:

For twenty-nine years, I had the privilege of teaching high school math in Denver.   During that time, I worked with a wonderfully diverse group of students that came from over forty different countries and spoke over sixty languages.   There is nothing like the sparkle in a child’s eye when they have that “aha” moment of understanding.  Mathnasium provides both the students and me with the opportunity to experience that “aha” moment everyday.

Favorite Number:

Any number that is a palindrome - I love the symmetry!

I enjoy golf, skiing, reading, scuba diving, traveling and of course, math! In recent years I’ve had many wonderful travel opportunities including a tour of London and Scotland, and scuba diving trips to Mexico, Grand Cayman, and Hawaii. My favorite was the London/Scotland trip which included dinner in the Tower of London, a private viewing of the Crown Jewels and a round of golf at both St. Andrews and Gleneagles.

My favorite thing to do is spending time with my family.

Why I love working at Mathnasium... I love working at Mathnasium because I have always wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of others. About me:

I grew up in a family with a long line of entrepreneurs. I graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in mathematics and a teaching certification. Instead of using my teaching qualifications, I followed in my family's footsteps of being business owners and opened a retail store in Fort Collins at the age of 22. I've had a few different businesses along the way and discovered Mathnasium in late 2011. I opened the Parker center in January 2012. I have loved helping children with their understanding of math, and witnessing their increased confidence and self esteem!

I have a deep love of animals and I enjoy spending my spare time with my 2 rescue dogs. I used to have two dogs who were certified "pet therapists." We spent many hours visiting hospitals to share some canine love with the patients.

I have always loved traveling, and one of my favorite ways to see the world is long distance cross-country walking trips.  My first trip was through part of Tuscany, Italy for about 60 miles.  I have also traveled to  Scotland  and walked/hiked through the highlands for 92 miles in 6 days.   While not a walking trip, I had a life-impacting trip to India.  I spent time in orphanages as well as a center for abandoned adults/seniors.  I did get some walking in though, as my trip wrapped up with a few days of hiking and camping in the Himalayas.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
