Happy Labor Day

Mathnasium is closed today (9/2) to observe Labor Day and spend the day relaxing with our loved ones.  We hope you get to enjoy the same.

This year marks the 125th observance of Labor Day.  Now, as a math learning center, this number is pretty significant. So, we want to remind any families with young kids to talk about math and numbers in their everyday discussions.  You're probably sure that your child can count by 2's, 5's and 10's, right?  Well, can your child count by 25's?  A basic tenet of mathematical understanding is recognizing patterns.  And learning to count by 25's will help with, not only the obvious counting of money, but also understanding quarters as fractions of a whole - especially when they make the connection with percentages. (We need 4 groups of 25% to make a wole 100%)

Use this opportunity today to make sure that your child, especially those between the ages of 6 and 12, can count by 25's forward  (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200,...) and backwards (from 200 back down to zero).  Make it fun - it shouldn't be work!  Happy Labor Day!
