Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Alan Lowell

Co-Owner & Center Director

Alan brings over 30 years of experience in technology, with roles at Microsoft and Proofpoint. He’s especially proud of his work promoting STEM access through Microsoft’s DigiGirlz program. A graduate of NYIT, Alan believes the problem-solving and critical thinking skills students build at Mathnasium prepare them for success in any field.

Outside the center, he enjoys strategy games and spending time with his energetic chocolate lab, Opie.

Adam Ruggiero

Lead Instructor

Adam earned his Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics from the University of Connecticut and has loved math since childhood. He’s passionate about making a positive impact on students by helping them see how math connects to everything around them.

At Mathnasium, Adam enjoys sharing that sense of connection and discovery with every student he teaches.

Preetam Potnis

Instructor

Preetam brings over 30 years of teaching experience in math and art, both in India and Dubai. Although she originally earned a Bachelor’s in Pharmacy, her passion for education led her to pursue teaching full time. Since moving to the U.S. in 2019, she has continued working as a math tutor and also teaches art at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library.

Preetam loves working with students from Kindergarten through Grade 11 and says being around them keeps her young at heart.

Aviva Friedman

Former Instructor
My name is Aviva Friedman. I am a sophomore at Binghamton University double majoring in Mathematics and Economics. I have loved math since I was a child and I enjoy the creativity and problem solving needed for math. My goal is to share my love of math with students so that they too can appreciate its importance and beauty.

Joe Panarelli

Former Instructor
Joe was an Instructor with us for 2 years! During a 35-year career at Con Edison, Joe worked as an environmental and safety regulation specialist. After leaving that career, he taught industrial safety and environmental compliance to a variety of corporations and organizations. He is also a proud father of 4 and grandfather of 8. He thoroughly enjoyed bringing his warm demeanor and teaching expertise to our students! His real passion is for interacting with our students so that they feel comfortable and confident learning math with us. He knows that when students are in a great learning environment with the presence of expert instructors, they enjoy themselves, gain confidence, and look forward to continuing their learning at Mathnasium.

Angela Sadlis

Former Instructor
Angela spent well over a year and a half with us, where her expertise in encouraging students helped those who were really struggling to get back on board with learning, and inspired many others to keep up and get ahead. She achieved a bachelor's degree and master's degree in Adolescent Mathematics Education/Special Education, and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, in May of 2023. She is now teaching mathematics for special education at the secondary level.
