Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Helena

Instructor

Helena is a second year at San Diego State University, majoring in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Mathematics. She has been tutoring in math since high school. Outside of Mathnasium Helena enjoys riding horses and cooking for her friends. She hopes to become a future elementary educator and takes pride in helping students throughout their academic journey. She loves to watch students' confidence grow as they begin to understand challenging topics. Helena hopes to make an impact by encouraging students that they can do anything they put their minds to!

Skyler

Instructor

Skyler is in her third year of college at the University of San Diego, majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience. She plans on continuing her education to go to Physical Therapy school. She is also a division 1 swimmer for the University of San Diego. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running, swimming in the ocean, and exploring new places. She has always been passionate about STEM skills, and loves to help others learn. Skyler wants to create the most supportive environment possible at Mathnasium for everyone to learn and grow!

Oscar

Instructor

Oscar has a long history with math. From an early age he realized that he had a gift for understanding and teaching others. This led him to one of the few full scholarships at the UNI (National University of Engineering) in Peru - the top university for engineers in Peru. He has a Bachelors of Science in Systems Engineering, a MS in Management Information Systems, and an MS in Finance. His career has spanned many high-level positions at IBM, Burger King Corp., and Miami Dade County.

As a way to give back, he has also held several university-level positions as a professor, teaching the youth in Peru as well as here in the United States. He enjoys making a difference in the lives of others and sparking a joy for math when his students make connections on concepts.

Fazal

Insructor

Fazal has an extensive STEM background and knows how crucial math is in the engineering, computer science and finance fields. In his home country of Afghanistan, Fazal studied engineering. He applied these skills working at several NGOs focused on supporting Afghan refugees. In San Diego, he continued his education in the study of computer science. Not only does Fazal love supporting students in math, but he enjoys the friendly staff and students at Mathnasium of Point Loma.

Tatiana

Instructor

Tatiana has been a tutor with Mathnasium since November 2024 and has lived in San Diego since August of the same year. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2021. She moved around regularly since then while trying to bridge her experience in engineering with her passions to reform America's public education curriculum. She's held jobs as a science museum manager, a design engineer in manufacturing, and a content creator for EngineerGirl.org. Outside of hopscotching her way through a career, she loves to make her own clothing, explore natural spaces with her dog, and read as many books as she can manage. We love her passion for math and her fun and engaging approach to teaching!

Nate

Instructor

Nate is an undergraduate student at San Diego State University, double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Data Science. Alongside his studies, he works as a research assistant at SDSU, contributing to projects in mathematical and computational sciences. Outside of Mathnasium, he enjoys surfing, DJing, playing saxophone, and cheering on the Padres. With mathematics as his passion, he hopes to pursue graduate studies and inspire others by sharing the elegance of math.

Amber

Instructor

Sofia

Instructor

Sofia enjoys working with children and has much experience as the eldest of four girls. She discovered her love for math early on - after seeing friends struggle, she dedicated her efforts to tutoring. She decided she would help change the effect math can have on a students' perception of what they can and cannot do. She didn't like the way one comment or test score could affect a students' entire outlook on math. She is currently helping us test our SAT/ACT prep courses.

In her free time she likes to play violin, compete in gymnastics, and volunteer at animal shelters. Her kindness, patience, and passion for service make her truly stand out.

Joaquin

Instructor

Joaquin is a Senior at High Tech High International and will attend SDSU in the fall. His elected major is Biochemistry, as he plans to pursue a Pre-Med career or enter the biotech industry. Having lived in Hawaii for 10 years, he developed deep values in community and collaboration.

Joaquin has always been passionate about math since he was a kid, and understands the frustration of learning new math. He wants to be able to minimize this frustration and struggle to as many people as possible. In his spare time, he likes to work out, spend time with his pets, and work on his studies.
