Is Your Child Ready For Algebra This Fall?

Aug 15, 2022 | Richmond West

notepadWhat is Algebra and why so many students find it hard?

Algebraic thinking is not just arithmetic with letters standing for numbers. It's an entirely different way of thinking. Algebra is thinking logically about numbers rather than computing with numbers. In algebra students are expected to use analytic and qualitative reasoning about numbers whereas in arithmetic we use numerical and quantitative reasoning with numbers. While traditionally Algebra is part of High School curriculum recent changes have made Algebra required in Middle school in order for students to be accepted in certain high schools. Instead of taking a pre-algebra course to get students better prepared for Algebra now they jump straight into it from regular 6th grade or 7th grade math.

Is your child ready for algebra succcess?

Algebra marks a turning point in a student's mathematical education—it's the culmination of all the math that has come before it... and the foundation for all the high school and college math that is to follow. Knowledge of Algebra is a firm prerequisite for even the most basic college-level math and science classes!
