Fall Updates from Mathnasium of Round Lake Beach: Gaps, Goals, and Halloween Fun!

Oct 23, 2026 | Round Lake Beach

Now that school is well underway and state- and district-wide testing has wrapped up, many families are taking a closer look at where their students stand academically. Here at Mathnasium of Round Lake Beach, we’ve been connecting with parents across our community to talk about progress, hurdles, and how we can set every student up for success.

What We're Hearing From Parents Right Now

With test scores returning, a common theme has emerged: surprise. Many parents are sharing that they weren’t fully aware of how far behind their children had fallen or how much they were quietly struggling with their coursework. Standardized tests often highlight foundational gaps that day-to-day homework doesn't always reveal.

The Most Common Math Struggles

Right now, the biggest hurdle we are seeing isn't necessarily advanced algebra or complex geometry—it’s finding and fixing missing gaps from previous school years. Specifically, many students are missing a firm grasp on basic math facts. When those foundational building blocks are shaky, it creates a bottleneck that slows kids down when they try to tackle multi-step, sophisticated concepts in the classroom.

A Piece of Advice for Our Community

Check in with your student consistently, and listen when they speak up.

Math builds sequentially, meaning frustration rarely fixes itself. If your child expresses that they are struggling or feel overwhelmed, take it seriously and seek out support early. Catching those gaps quickly prevents minor slip-ups from turning into long-term math anxiety.

What’s Happening at the Center

We like to make math rewarding and engaging, and our center is buzzing with excitement right now!
