Child Assessment: Is Math A Joy or Chore?

With midterms and report cards around the corner, some parents are discovering that their children are either falling a little behind or having more difficulty in math. Don't worry - this is to be expected with last year's school year being cut short and a summer of uncertainty behind us. At Mathnasium, we can help your child to catch up, get ahead, and even enjoy their math classes!

Children typically lose between two and three months of academic growth during the summer. This past year, with most schools closing mid-March, that academic loss has been much more dramatic. Studies are showing that depending on the grade, some students have lost anywhere from half to all of their math academic growth from the last year. They also found that upper elementary students are facing the biggest losses faced potentially the biggest losses, in part because 4th and 5th grades are usually a time of rapid academic growth.

It all starts with a customized assessment to pinpoint the child’s unique needs, allowing us to meet them where they are and take them where they need to go. We then design a customized learning plan for teaching the concepts the student needs to master. This teaching all happens by our specially trained and caring instructors who help each student individually in a way to help them understand the concept.
