Mathnasium of Santa Monica's personalized math test prep programs are designed to help students at every level feel confident and prepared on exam day.
Following personalized learning plans, our tutors help K–12 students master the concepts behind every upcoming quiz, unit test, and final exam. From elementary math through Precalculus and beyond, we target the exact skills each student needs so that classroom exams become an opportunity to demonstrate what they truly know.
We align instruction with California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics to prepare students for the math portions of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). By identifying each student's knowledge gaps and building understanding level by level, we help students approach their CAASPP with the skills and confidence needed to meet and exceed grade-level expectations.
Our specially trained tutors prepare high school students for the math sections of the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT® using proprietary test prep materials and personalized learning plans. We focus on building lasting content knowledge and exam-ready problem-solving strategies, so students see real score improvement on test day and beyond.
At Mathnasium of Santa Monica, our specially trained math tutors help K–12 students prepare for any math exam, from classroom quizzes and state assessments to college admissions tests like the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT®.
We work with students in a caring and fun group environment, providing personalized, face-to-face instruction that focuses on genuine understanding. Our tutors pinpoint each student's knowledge gaps, introduce concepts in a logical sequence, and guide them steadily forward so they feel prepared and capable when exam day arrives.
We use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that combines assessment-based personalized learning plans with proven interactive techniques to build the mathematical understanding students need to perform well on any exam.
Rather than drilling test-taking tactics, our tutors help students truly grasp the concepts they'll be tested on. Paired with proprietary test prep materials, this approach develops the problem-solving skills and confidence that lead to meaningful, lasting improvement.
Students begin their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment that helps us pinpoint their current skill level, knowledge gaps, and exam goals. Using these insights, we design a personalized learning plan that targets exactly what each student needs to work on.
Tutors follow each plan closely, reinforcing understanding and introducing new material gradually. As students build skills and fill knowledge gaps, their confidence grows alongside their readiness, so they arrive at their exam prepared to do their best.

Diego Hernandez
Assistant Center Director
Diego Hernandez graduated with an Associate in Business Administration and a certification in the CPA track program from Santa Monica College. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Analytics at CSU East Bay as a fully online student. Mathematics has always had a special place in his life. After the Covid-19 quarantine, Diego returned to school with renewed motivation, determined to explore math as deeply as possible.
What began as a pursuit of quick, clever solutions grew into a deeper appreciation for the structure and elegance behind mathematical reasoning. As a previous instructor, Diego embraces the Mathnasium method, which emphasizes strong foundations, creativity, and ingenuity—principles he believes all students deserve. In the future, he hopes to pursue a Master’s in Pure Mathematics as a personal academic project.
Outside of academics, Diego enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, watching movies, working out, and playing Fortnite, Clash Royale, and Clash of Clans.
Jonathan Johnson

He loves math and science, especially ecology, and cares about helping his students love these subjects too. He believes math should feel useful and even enjoyable, not just a memorization slog. In his free time, he does mountain biking, surfing, theatre, and music.
Conrad
Instructor
Hello! I'm Conrad and I am one of the instructors that grant children a better understanding of math here. I was born in Berkeley and spent nearly my entire life living in the eastern Bay Area. Math has been my favorite School subject since preschool and I have excelled in every math class I've been in (Geometry was pretty tough though). I moved to Santa Monica with my family after I graduated from high school in 2024 and have been attending Santa Monica College ever since. My interests other than math include computer programming, modern history, economics and cats!
Joseph
Instructor
Hey I’m Joseph! I graduated from Berkeley with a BA in Russian Literature, but I’d study math if I could do it all again! I think math is beautiful like art or music. You can walk around a whole mathematical universe with only your mind. I find that fascinating. I am so convinced that math is fun that I made it my job at Mathnasium. Best choice ever. Beyond math, I like studying world religions, martial arts, and staring up at the night sky

Santa Monica Preparatory
At Mathnasium of Santa Monica, we believe the best exam preparation is building deep math understanding and mastery over time.
Students begin their enrollment process with a diagnostic assessment that helps us identify their current skills and knowledge gaps. From there, we create a personalized learning plan that builds math skills consistently, session by session, so students aren't starting from scratch before every test.
Our specially trained tutors work with students across any K–12 math class, from elementary math through Precalculus and beyond, reinforcing the concepts they're learning in school, filling in foundational gaps, and developing the problem-solving skills that serve them on quizzes, midterms, and final exams alike.
When a major exam is approaching, we can align instruction with the specific topics and concepts it will cover, so students walk in feeling prepared.
Yes! Mathnasium of Santa Monica prepares students for the math portions of the CAASPP, including the Smarter Balanced summative assessments.
Our tutors align instruction with the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics to ensure students have a solid grasp of the grade-level concepts they'll encounter on the exam. We identify each student's knowledge gaps through a diagnostic assessment and build a personalized learning plan that targets the skills they need to meet and exceed grade-level expectations.
The earlier, the better. Because the CAASPP measures cumulative math understanding built over the school year, students benefit most from consistent, ongoing support rather than last-minute preparation.
Ideally, students should begin working with us at the start of the school year or semester. This gives us time to identify and address any knowledge gaps, build foundational skills, and ensure students are progressing steadily toward grade-level mastery well before test day.
That said, if your student is closer to the exam, we can still make a meaningful difference. Contact us and we'll create a focused plan based on the time available.
Yes! Mathnasium of Santa Monica prepares high school students for the math sections of the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT®.
Our specially trained tutors use proprietary test prep materials and personalized learning plans to build the content knowledge and problem-solving strategies students need to perform their best on test day. Whether your student is taking the exam for the first time or looking to improve their score, we tailor preparation to their current skill level and target goals.
We recommend starting at least three to six months before the exam date, and earlier is always better.
College admissions math tests cover a wide range of topics, from algebra and data analysis to geometry and, on the ACT®, trigonometry. Students who begin preparation early have time to identify and close knowledge gaps, build fluency with exam-style problems, and develop the confidence that comes from sustained practice.
For students with significant gaps in foundational math skills, starting even earlier — in middle school or early high school — gives them the strongest possible foundation heading into test prep.
If your student's test date is approaching sooner, contact us and we'll build a focused plan around the time they have.
Mathnasium of Santa Monica offers math test prep as part of a flat monthly membership fee. Pricing depends on your student's individual plan and session schedule.
For specific pricing information, please contact our center directly — we're happy to walk you through the options and find a plan that fits your student's goals and your family's needs.
The number of sessions depends on your student's current skill level, the exam they're preparing for, and how much time is available before test day.
As a general guide, most students preparing for a major exam such as the SAT®, PSAT®, or ACT® attend two sessions per week over three to six months. For state assessments or classroom exams, the timeline may be shorter, depending on the student's starting point and goals.
After the diagnostic assessment, we'll have a clear picture of what your student needs and can recommend a session schedule that gives them the best chance of success.
Yes! Students can join live, face-to-face online sessions with our specially trained tutors in Santa Monica and follow the same personalized learning plan as they would in the center.
No, both formats provide the same personalized learning plan, face-to-face instruction, and caring guidance from our tutors. Many families choose a combination of in-center and online sessions for added flexibility around busy schedules and exam timelines.
Yes. Our tutors understand the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the expectations of local schools in Santa Monica and surrounding communities.
When appropriate, we align personalized learning plans with state standards and classroom goals to support both school performance and exam preparation.
Getting started is easy! Email us at [email protected] or schedule an assessment online.
During the assessment, we'll identify your student's current skill level, knowledge gaps, and exam goals, and use those insights to build their personalized learning plan.
