Teachers Create Magic - TAW 2026

May 4, 2026 | Short Pump

It’s that special time of year when we come together to celebrate the educators who help shape our students' lives—Teacher Appreciation Week! At Mathnasium, we’re proud to support teachers all year long, and this May, we’re putting a spotlight on all the ways they go above and beyond.

Teachers Create Magic

The best teachers add confidence, subtract frustration, multiply curiosity, and divide learning into steps anyone can follow. They're the secret sauce that makes learning not only palatable, but an enjoyable activity that will help children thrive as they grow. We've seen firsthand the creativity and compassion teachers bring to their work, often under challenging circumstances; that dedication deserves a big celebration!

💐 Craft a Card for Your Teacher
We’re inviting all students to create personalized cards at the center this week—just one small way to say “thanks” to a great teacher. You can also decorate one at home with our printable template.

🎁 Gift Basket Giveaways
We've been collecting nominations from our students and their families over the past couple of weeks for a local teacher to win a special Mathnasium gift basket, and we'll be dropping that off this week! Learn more about this activity by asking a staff member next time you’re in the center!

📝 Team Teacher Shoutouts
We asked our team to share a memory of a teacher who changed their lives. Check out some of their stories here:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Daniel Hefko who taught English at Hanover High School. Mr. Hefko was an amazing English teacher. He was very engaging with us as students and made English fun, which was not my strongest subject. He made a difference in my life and my teaching methods are similar to his as he inspired me.
-Dan, Mathnasium of Chester

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Dr. Sadot, my Organic Chemistry professor at Washington Adventist University. Dr. Sadot made a very tough class understandable and doable. I ended up working for him for 2 years and I learned a lot!
-Paul, Mathnasium of Mechanicsville

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Smith, who taught Economics and Personal Finance at Nansemond River High School. Mrs. Smith was one of my favorite teachers because she was not only knowledgable and helpful in class, but she was also a genuinely kind person. She made an impact on myself and many of her students by showing up for others in a constructive and caring way.
-Megan, Mathnasium of Midlothian

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Alexander, My Algebra 1 teacher at Ingomar Middle School. She had very thorough explanations and took her time to explain every math concept! She is the reason I have a great foundation in my Algebra skills. She was organized with her notes so we would feel like we had all the material to learn any new concept.
-Gayatri, Mathnasium of Short Pump

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Garrett Fowler who taught Calculus 3 at Virginia Tech. He always made class interesting, fun, and engaging. He would use funny verbiage to refer to math rules and I just liked the guy.
-Henry, Mathnasium of Short Pump

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher, Mrs. Wyman, was an educational support teacher who worked with me throughout my elementary school years. She was always kind and patient with all of her students and always strived to help her students understand materials in a way that made the most sense to them at an individual level. After I graduated from VCU, I worked as a substitute teacher at my old elementary school and I had the pleasure of getting to work with her. The experience of working with her and the other amazing teachers at Swift Creek Elementary School helped me become the educator I am today.
-Caleb, Mathnasium of Tuckahoe

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The teacher who had a biggest impact on me is Mrs. Leighty, my 11th grade AP Calculus teacher. Mrs. Leighty was an excellent math teacher because she really taught her class from the heart. Every student was made to feel welcome and special. I personally loved sitting in her class in a way that no other teacher has done for me.
-TJ, Mathnasium of Short Pump and Tuckahoe

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite teacher is Ms. Trudi who taught Kindergarten at Poplar Elementary. Ms Trudi was the perfect K teacher. It's amazing I can still remember her name, face, the way she made all her kids feel welcome and special. I even remember the classroom! She really loved music, and I remember sitting on my mat, cross legged, with a simple instrument in my hand. Her enthusiasm was infectious!
-Amy, Mathnasium of Woodlake
