Gayatri graduated from Virginia Tech in 2023 with a degree in Mathematics and Psychology, followed by a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Mathematics. Her passion for teaching began in high school while interning with a 5th grade math teacher, where she discovered how the way math is taught can shape a student's relationship with the subject.
Gayatri is excited to be at Mathnasium because of its focus on making math meaningful and fun—not just memorized. Outside the center, she loves traveling, and is always planning her next trip. She also enjoys spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking new dishes.
Emma-Cate graduated from John Tyler Community College (Brightpoint) with a 3.96 GPA and highest honors in the Math/Science major. Her previous experience at Chick-fil-A taught her the importance of teamwork and excellent customer service, working with managers and team members to ensure every customer is treated with respect and courtesy. Mathnasium is a perfect fit for Emma-Cate because she experienced its transformative power firsthand—joining in 6th grade with a 3rd-grade math level and advancing five grade levels in just two years, ultimately achieving straight A's throughout high school! Outside of Mathnasium, Emma-Cate loves spending time with her parents over dinner and enjoys reading books and watching Chinese movies to maintain her fluency in both English and Chinese.
Henry completed his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics at Virginia Tech. He’s always been an avid learner, having participated in the early bird program from 5th grade onward and taking AP math in high school. While Mathnasium is his first foray into teaching, he’s spent years honing his customer service and time management skills in the food service industry.
Henry says that working at Mathnasium is his dream job, because he loves having the chance to impart wisdom to students, enriching their education journey with her own math knowledge and experiences. Outside of the center, Henry enjoys movies, weight lifting, and video games like Stellaris and Satisfactory. He can also Mongolian Throat Sing and wants to learn how to play the guitar!
TJ holds a Bachelor’s of Science and Masters of Engineering in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia. He started as an instructor at Mathnasium in 2019 and has served as Team Captain, Center Director, and currently Assistant Center Director! TJ discovered a love of math in his childhood, and is excited to share that love of math with the Mathnasium students and their families. Outside of the center, TJ enjoys cooking (he’s vegetarian), reading, and exercise. He’s also a Boston Celtics fan and speaks German and Gujarati, which is spoken in Gujarat, India!
Austin holds a degree in Mathematics from James Madison University and joined Mathnasium in 2019. He’s served as Center Director at multiple locations and now supports several teams as Area Manager.
A strong advocate for math education, Austin brings energy, creativity, and leadership to every center he supports. Outside of work, he enjoys filmmaking, podcasts, and reading. He also minored in film studies while at JMU.
Jeff earned his Economics degree from James Madison University and later a Master’s in Education from George Mason University. He taught high school and college math for 10 years before transitioning into national leadership roles in operations and training.
Now at Mathnasium, Jeff combines his experience and passion for math to support student success and staff development. Outside of work, he enjoys time with his wife of 28 years, their two dogs, and visits with their three adult children.
James developed a passion for and proficiency with Mathematics during his middle and high school years. In 2000, James graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Mathematics and a love for solving all types of problems. He took those skills into the United States Air Force where he served for 7 years as an aircraft maintenance officer. It was during these years that James had the opportunity to tutor home schooled children and really started to appreciate the frustration that many kids feel towards Mathematics. James left the Air Force in 2007 to go back to the University of Virginia where he received his Master's of Business Administration degree from the Darden School of Business.
