Mathnasium of Simpsonville's Top 5 Moments!

1. Our favorite “aha!” moment with a student.

A: A student had been learning and working on finding the greatest common factor using traditional methods. I showed her the Cake method and everything clicked. It is her favorite process - she even thinks that it is fun!

2. A time when a student earned a reward.

A: We had a first grader who had been eyeing a Twix since his brother came in for an assessment. Mom brought him in a couple weeks later to take his own assessment and he started the program. Since starting, he worked as hard as he could to complete as many pages as possible to earn enough punches to get a Twix. Once he had earned enough and bought his Twix, he couldn't contain his excitement.

3. Positive parent experience.

A: A parent came in to pick up their child one day and told me how much her child's grade and math skills had improved. He started with a 60% in math and has raised it to a 90%.

4. Favorite ways to teach concepts.

A: I enjoy using 2 colors of interlocking blocks to show students how they can break a number apart when adding, especially when adding over 10. It gives the students a visual image of what and why they are breaking the number up to begin with.

5. A time when a student scored well on a test.

A: A student came in one day and told me how well she did on a school assessment that we had reviewed for in the previous session. She was so proud of herself and so happy to tell me. I was beyond proud of her, not just because of the grade she got on the assessment, but how much her confidence had increased since starting at Mathnasium.
