Most of the time the results math gives us seem pretty logical or as we say at Mathnasium, it “makes sense.” We can count the number of seats in a row at Tiger stadium and multiple by the number of rows and get a total that surprises no one. But as we describe the world mathematically we can also find some surprises. For example, is you are offered the value of a penny doubled every day for a month of 31 days or $100,000 a day every day instead, take the penny! You’ll have over $10 million bucks instead of only $3,000,000 (if only I had such a choice). Or did you know that if you have a gathering of over 23 people there is better than a 50% chance at least two people have the same birthday? That’s crazy! But it’s true and in fact has won me a few Diet Cokes in my day. Math can open our eyes to knowledge we would never otherwise find (not to mention a few bucks). Come let us at Mathnasium help your young student see more of the world through a computational lens.
Do better in math, do better in life. Have a Mathtastic day!
P.S. Stay tuned..we’re getting ready for summer math fun!
