Jeff graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in Music, focusing on voice and sound recording technology. His professional background includes roles in recording studios, marketing, aerial photography, and a record label—careers where math skills gave him a clear edge.
A Milwaukie native now living in Sellwood, Jeff brings his enthusiasm for both math and learning to the Mathnasium team. He enjoys helping students discover real-world applications for math. In his free time, Jeff enjoys playing guitar, boating on the Willamette River, and gaming.
Dakotah holds dual degrees in Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from Oregon Tech. He has experience as an engineering technician and orthotics practitioner and is now pursuing graduate studies in mathematics at Portland State University with the goal of teaching at the university level.
Dakotah is also a touring drummer and manager for the band “Owls & Aliens.” At Mathnasium, he enjoys helping students build strong number fluency and overcome the intimidation often associated with math. He’s passionate about making math clear, logical, and enjoyable.
Sophia received a B.S. in Mathematics from Utah State University, and kept on studying in grad school for three more years in the fields of algebraic topology and category theory. She loves math mainly for the delightful sensations that come when thinking very hard and very precisely. She’s been in Portland since 2006 and fills her free time with memorizing John Milton’s poem Paradise Lost (which she performs monthly), playing strategy board games, and practicing her speedcubing. She’s extremely excited to be working at Mathnasium and helping kids learn new ways of thinking about mathematics.
Josh studied at the University of Oregon and graduated with a major in computer science and a minor in psychology. He is passionate about fostering a foundation for knowledge and an eagerness to learn in every student. In the future, he hopes to pursue a counseling degree and become a therapist. Outside of instructing and tutoring, he enjoys playing music and online games.
Eddie graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Chemistry, with plans to become a high school science teacher. He is passionate about science and the math that is fundamental to it, as well as learning new things regardless of subject. He has experience as a laboratory assistant and as a camp counselor.
Eddie spends his free time solving word and number puzzles, reading, baking desserts, and simply being outdoors, as long as the weather permits it.
Isaiah is a mathematics major at Portland State University with plans to become a high school math teacher. He enjoys exploring multiple problem-solving strategies and has a passion for helping others understand math in new and exciting ways.
Outside of Mathnasium, Isaiah can often be found doing math just for fun, playing guitar, or spending time with friends. He brings enthusiasm and a love for learning to every session with his students.
Milena graduated from Barnard College with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology. She loves science and has worked in health care and research. She also has experience teaching students of all ages, and is passionate about making STEM accessible. In her free time, she likes to bake, do crafts, and take care of her many plants.
Narmada is currently a first year medical student at OHSU and graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in microbiology and a minor in chemistry. She enjoys reading, crafts, working out and has a passion for math and science. Narmada loves working with students to make math more engaging and fun.
Eliano is currently a senior at Reed College, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Chinese. Passionate about helping others, Eliano has a deep love of learning and teaching that they bring with them to the center. They are passionate about making math fun for students and ensuring they have the best learning experience possible.
Originally from Arizona, Eliano is enjoying the cooler weather and beautiful Oregon landscape in Portland. In their spare time, they enjoy skating, painting, and listening to music.
Bruce holds a BA in Mathematics from Lewis & Clark College and has come full circle back to his love of math through Mathnasium. His career began in actuarial science and the pension and retirement plans industry before transitioning into healthcare consulting, most recently with WebMD Health Services. He opened multiple Mathnasium centers to share his belief in the power of number sense and logical thinking.
Outside of work, Bruce is a youth basketball coach and a Portland-based musician. He performs with multiple bands including Ural Thomas & The Pain and The Portland Horns and has appeared on numerous recordings.
An education professional for over 35 years, Larry has devoted his entire career to finding a better way to teach and learn math.
