Miss Sommer is a lifelong math and art enthusiast, but it didn’t start that way. As a child, she struggled with math and dreaded timed tests. That changed in middle school when a thoughtful teacher showed her that math could be creative, fun, and even magical.
She went on to earn a B.A. in Mathematics from Washington & Jefferson College in 2011 and has been with Mathnasium since 2015. Miss Sommer loves helping students overcome their own math fears and discover the beauty of problem-solving.
Rachel opened her Mathnasium center to share her passion for teaching and math with the community. She studied Mathematics and Chemistry in college and earned a graduate degree in Applied Mathematics.
With experience teaching math at every level—from elementary school through college—Rachel is dedicated to making math make sense for every student. When not at the center, she enjoys running, coaching basketball, and spending time with her three children: Rylan, Cameron, and Ashley. Rachel loves seeing students build confidence as they learn to enjoy math.
Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.
