Bobby Tarnowski
Owner
It thrills me to see a young person's face light up when it finally hits them how math works and is useful in the things they're passionate about. I believe that a solid understanding of mathematics is foundational in our ability to make good life choices, equipping us to live lives with greater independence and accomplishment of our goals. I graduated from St. John's University with a B.A. in Mathematics and continued with a master’s Program in Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of St. Thomas. Math has been indispensable throughout my career in engineering and management and is also quite useful in my business and family life.
Andrea Watkins
Center Director
Andrea has a passion for helping students reach their full potential in mathematics. With extensive experience tutoring, she has helped students improve their math understanding and assessment scores. Andrea has worked in the school setting for over 20 years in various roles, including as a paraprofessional, math interventionist, and with MN Math Corps. She has also volunteered in diverse urban STEM programs for youth. Currently, Andrea is enrolled at Metro State, where she is finishing her bachelor’s degree in business education. She is excited to be a part of Mathnasium, where the focus is always on students and math!
Levi Hewett
Lead Instructor
Levi is a senior at STMA High School and participates in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program at the University of Northwestern St. Paul. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as photography, hiking, and geocaching, as well as kayaking and paddleboarding during the summer. Each summer, Levi is a member of the high school marching band at STMA, where he plays trombone and performs in 15 parades locally and across the country, including in Disney World and Philadelphia. He is also a referee for competitive club and high school soccer. Levi loves math and enjoys working at Mathnasium because it provides a "black and white" approach where there is always one right answer, and nothing is left up for interpretation. He especially enjoys the "lightbulb moment" when a student who has been struggling with a concept finally understands it.
Lisa Kuehn
Instructor
Lisa is a high school chemistry teacher at a homeschool co-op. She likes this because of the logical nature behind it. Outside of work she likes bicycling, readings, and watching K-dramas. She likes math because it’s logical and “figure-outable”. One fun fact about Lisa is that three of her children worked at Mathnasium.
Mya Smith
Instructor
Mya is currently a freshman at Winona State University, where I am majoring in Exercise Science with the intention of going into Occupational Therapy. Volleyball is my favorite sport, and I have played at Crossfire Youth Sports on their top team for the past three years. Since graduating, I now coach all age groups throughout the summer and winter. My favorite thing about math is that there is always a right answer, and it doesn't keep you guessing. In my free time I love exercising, hiking, exploring new coffee shops, and boating at my cabin in Crosslake, MN.
Jacob Boe
Instructor
Jacob graduated from Big Lake High School in 2021 and is currently enrolled in community college, with plans to transfer to a university to earn a bachelor’s degree in linguistics. Last summer, he had the opportunity to teach English to children in Paris while utilizing the French he learned in high school. Jacob’s favorite thing about math is its steadfastness, and he currently participates in the AMATYC Student Math League. In his spare time, Jacob enjoys reading books, watching movies and TV shows, and writing freelance for an entertainment news website.
Nick Popovich
Instructor
Nick is currently a junior at STMA with a strong interest in teaching. He is an avid reader, an aspiring programmer, and enjoys playing video games. Since middle school, Nick has enjoyed helping his peers with challenging concepts and has realized that many students don’t fully appreciate a subject until they understand it. He is planning to later become a high school chemistry teacher. It’s all about the moment of realization when a student understands a concept. For him, this is the greatest appeal of education and working with kids—helping them discover a passion for what they’re learning.

Mathnasium provides premium value by combining a superior learning experience with an efficient structure that keeps costs low. There is a flat enrollment fee for our program, and students attend regularly—much like a gym membership. We recommend that they attend Mathnasium 2-3 times per week as attending less frequently will slow results and attending too often could lead to student burnout. Pricing varies by program and geographic area. Contact our center for more details on enrollment packages.
We use the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary teaching approach which combines personalized learning plans with proven techniques to build math knowledge upon what students already know, so they're able to retain what they learn and gain confidence along the way.
No. All learning occurs under the efficient and effective guidance of our trained instructors. Adding homework would risk frustration and overload. In fact, we'll set aside some time each session to help your student with their school homework.
