James Longnecker

Assistant Center Director
Hi! I'm James Longnecker, I have liked math since elementary school. Now that may seem hard to believe, but it's true. I used to really enjoy doing the "Math minute" where I had to solve as many multiplication problems as I could in 60 seconds, and that enjoyment carried through the rest of my schooling. To me math has always seemed like a fun challenge or puzzle that has a satisfying solution. I find that to be one of the best parts of math: once you 'get' it, it not only becomes doable, it can be easy and fun! My goal is to help my students see math the way I see it, so they too can 'get' it and really see the enjoyment of it all. I want to spread my knowledge and love of math as much as I can.

John Montaquila

Senior Instructor

John Montaquila is a seasoned math tutor with over 7 years of experience in education. He graduated with honors from Fitchburg State University, earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics. While proficient in teaching all levels, John specializes in high school courses such as Calculus, Pre-calculus and Algebra 2, among others. He believes in implementing a Socratic teaching technique whenever possible, where he guides students to think critically to discover answers themselves rather than providing direct solutions. He believes this method not only helps them in their math classes, but helps them become better learners all around. John's passion extends beyond math; he enjoys studying Japanese, playing chess and video games, and practicing the drums."

Benjamin Drinkwater

Senior Instructor

Benjamin tutors' students of all ages at Mathnasium. He holds a BA in physics from Boston University, where he supplemented his learning with an interdisciplinary concentration in mathematics. Benjamin has always appreciated the beauty in mathematics as the underlying foundation for various applied sciences. Teaching is one of Benjamin's greatest passions, as he seeks to inspire his students with the same love and appreciation for mathematics that he has found himself. In his free time, Benjamin continues his education, self-studying electrodynamic theory and path integral formulation. He is very excited to be a part of the instructor team at Mathnasium!"

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
