Mathnasium of Sugar House wants to introduce you to our Owner, Andrea Kaplan, Owner

Q: Why did you choose to own a Mathnasium center? A: I chose to own a Mathnasium Center because I had my own children who I felt needed more math in their lives. It was easy to find extracurricular sports and music lessons outside of school but I also wanted to boost their academic intelligence. After years of working for corporations, I loved the idea of being able to manage my own business and particularly a business that would have such a positive long term impact on children.

Q: What do you like about the city your Mathnasium center is located in? A: My grandparents moved to the Sugar House area in the 1930s. As a child, I have lots of happy memories of visiting the area to visit my grandparents. Later, I went to college at Westminster College in Sugar House. The area has changed through the years but the community has always remained uniquely charming. .

Q: Can you think of any way that your center has positively impacted the community that it’s located in? A: This year, our center celebrates its 10th year in operation. We have helped thousands of children gain competence in math and just as importantly, confidence in themselves.

Q: Did you like math when you were in grade school? A: I liked math in grade school, but it became more challenging in high school.

Q: What do you think you would have liked most about Mathnasium if you had attended when you were in grade school? A: As a shy child, I did not raise my hand or go to the teacher after class. Mathnasium would have been very good for me, as I would have felt less shy in a smaller setting and with a devoted instructor to help explain math in a way that made sense to me.

Q: One last question, what’s something fun you enjoy doing in Sugar House? A: We are right across the street from Sugar House Park. It’s an amazing park for biking, running, family reunions, or enjoying a picnic. Sugar house has lots of shopping and restaurants.
