Q: Tell me about a time when having math skills came in handy
A: J: A great time to know math is finding unit prices at the grocery store. You want to make sure it's worth buying the 16oz jar of peanut butter versus the 8oz!
G: Math skills have been very helpful when having to do taxes! Being able to solve everything myself saves me from having to buy a program to do it for me.
Q: Tell me about a memory you have of learning math
A: J: I remember in 3rd grade going through our multiplication tables. Every two weeks, we focused on a different number and then worked on filling out our multiplication charts.
G: I remember listening to School House Rock as a student. I STILL remember the song "8 times 7 is 56" and hear it whenever I multiply.
Q: What are some of the benefits of the Mathnasium Method?
A: J: The Mathnasium Method is not about memorization. We want to help students know how to mentally solve problems. These techniques are great examples of HOW students learn.
G: The Mathnasium Method teaches students in a way that makes sense to them. It's easier for them to understand when things are broken down into steps. Mathnasium is not about pure memorization; it's about practice and being able to do math mentally.
Q: What could Mathnasium have helped you with when you were a student?
A: J: Mathnasium would have been a great place for me to pursue higher math. My schooling did not have many honors classes, and loving math, I felt like I could have used more of a challenge.
G: Mathnasium would have helped me through Geometry. I did very well in Algebra, but those shapes and formulas were lost on me.
