Fred Schulz
Center Director / Owner
Fred has always had a Love for Math. He was a Math Major and Computer Science Minor while attending Central Michigan University. He spent 25 Years in the IT field before coming to Mathnasium. In Fred's own words, "After my Lovely wife and two Children, Mathnasium is the best thing that ever came my way in life. Our goal is to deliver the best product possible and the reviews show that we are doing just that. My favorite thing is seeing the smile on a students face when the light bulb comes on. It is a signal that they really understand the concept being presented. I also want to state the the main reason we have been successful is all due to the 14 INSTRUCTORS currently on our team as well as the past employees of Mathnasium of Waialae. Without our great team of instructors and Larry's Mathnasium Method there would be no greatness at Mathnasium of Waialae. (see the “our-team“ page for a FULL LISTING of our instructors)
Erin Schulz
Center Director / Owner
Erin was born and raised here on the island of Oahu, Hawaii and is a local girl at heart. She trained as a respiratory therapist and worked in local hospitals here on Oahu. For many years now, she has used her educational expertise to train caregivers and patients on the use of their durable medical equipment for home use while serving as marketing executive for a local durable medical equipment company. She finds math interesting, intriguing and a positive challenge. She believes passionately that if a student can conquer math, he or she will obtain confidence that will apply to any discipline and last a lifetime.
Kavan
Sr. Lead Instructor / Center Manager
Kavan is currently attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa studying mechanical engineering. He moved to Hawaii from Los Angeles when he was 8 years old. He went to Alvah Scott Elementary, then Aiea Intermediate School, and then earned his high school Diploma at ‘Iolani School. Kavan likes to play videogames and skateboard during his free time. Salena
Lead Instructor / @home Administrator
Salena currently attends the University of Portland in Oregon, working towards an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in biology and minor in communications. I was previously an education major, but I realized in order to teach about the environment, I need to be an expert in it first! I was named a commended student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program; and I’ve always loved math and the sciences. Salena states that Tutoring at Mathnasium has been an amazing opportunity to foster her appreciation of STEM in others.
Brendan
Sr. Lead Instructor
Brendan has been with Mathnasium since 2015. When Brendan was a student at Windward Community College, he was a college math tutor for courses such as foundational mathematics up to trigonometry, including the level 100 classes and calculus. As a 2009 graduate of Damien Memorial School, he spent all his high school years on the math team, competing in the Oahu Math League, and took AP Calculus in his junior year. He enjoys spending his free time playing video games, eating, and occasionally walking around town. “I may be odd, but I still can count even numbers.” .
Romino
Lead Instructor
Romino is currently pursuing a my undergraduate’s Bachelor’s of science in Chemistry. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do for a career, hopping around from major to major. I have finally set my goal on getting into pharmacy school. Aside from education I love fishing and cooking. Sometimes I like to do catch and cook as well.
Kirra

Kirra just recently graduated from University of California, San Diego. She’s currently attending a graduate certificate course at University of Hawaii. Mathnasium provides premium value by combining a superior learning experience with an efficient structure that keeps costs low. There is a flat enrollment fee for our program, and students attend regularly—much like a gym membership. We recommend that they attend Mathnasium 2-3 times per week as attending less frequently will slow results and attending too often could lead to student burnout. Pricing varies by program and geographic area. Contact our center for more details on enrollment packages.
