Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Daniel

Assistant Center Director

Daniel participated in mathletics for all of his middle school years, and graduated from Brown University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in environmental engineering. During summers he would help run various kids programs, including HPA’s residential summer school program and Kahilu Theater’s Kids’ Performing Arts Workshop, both on the Big Island. Working at Mathnasium since August of 2024 has been a wonderful opportunity for him to refamiliarize himself with core math concepts and to connect with kids and peers of all ages over math and problem solving.

Romino

Assistant Center Director

Romino is currently pursuing an undergraduate’s Bachelor’s of science in Chemistry. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do for a career, hopping around from major to major. I have finally set my goal on getting into pharmacy school. Aside from education I love fishing and cooking. Sometimes I like to do catch and cook as well.

Tai

Senior Lead Instructor

Tai graduated Punahou High School in 2021 and studied Law and Society at the University of Calgary in Canada until 2023. She graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree in Political Science. My future plans include either attending Law School to become a family lawyer or furthering research into Belgian Colonialism. I started working in childcare, volunteering at Aina Haina Summer Fun and have enjoyed working with children of all ages ever since. Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, and drawing.

Brendan

Senior Lead Instructor

Brendan has been with Mathnasium since 2015.  When Brendan was a student at Windward Community College, he was a college math tutor for courses such as foundational mathematics up to trigonometry, including the level 100 classes and calculus. As a 2009 graduate of Damien Memorial School, he spent all his high school years on the math team, competing in the Oahu Math League, and took AP Calculus in his junior year. He enjoys spending his free time playing video games, eating, and occasionally walking around town. “I may be odd, but I still can count even numbers.” .

She has always loved working with children and hopes to create a future classroom centered on inclusion, where all students feel motivated and excited to learn. He believes that students are often too focused on their grades rather than engaging with concepts, developing skills, and employing strategies, which are principles of learning and improving. He enjoys working with and learning from students of all age groups and is eager to continue his growth as a mathematician as well. Fred Schulz

President / CEO

Fred has always had a Love for Math. He was a Math Major and Computer Science Minor while attending Central Michigan University.  Fred arrived in Hawaii during January of 1986 via the United States Navy while stationed at Pearl Harbor.  After Leaving the Navy in 1989 he decided to remain in Hawaii.  He spent 25 Years in the IT field before coming to Mathnasium.

In Fred's own words, "After my Lovely wife and two Children, Mathnasium is the best thing that ever came my way in life. Our goal is to deliver the best product possible and the reviews show that we are doing just that. My favorite thing is seeing the smile on a students face when the light bulb comes on. It is a signal that they really understand the concept being presented. I also want to state the the main reason we have been successful is all due to the instructors currently on our team as well as the past employees of Mathnasium of Waialae. Without our great team of instructors and Larry's Mathnasium Method there would be no greatness at Mathnasium of Waialae.
