We opened the week with experimenting with pasta! Students helped Alex L, a homemade pasta enthusiast, make different pasta shapes to test with sauce at home. Then, students switched gears to building paper bridges with Steven, a student with a passion for engineering. This competition was a tough one as many students built incredibly strong paper bridges! Finally, we coded video games with Mitchell. Next week, we take a break to celebrate July 4th and come back the following week to build Mathnasium city, meet a firefighter, and create slime!
Scratch is what we used to code video games - you can use it for free! Check out this link for a ping pong game tutorial.
This week's experts are Alex L, Steven, and Mitchell!
Alex L is the current Assistant Center Director at Mathnasium. She started cooking in high school, but got invested in cooking from scratch when she moved to her apartment in college. Now Alex loves experimenting with all things cooking. For those interested in cooking, Alex suggests reading the recipe BEFORE you start. Also, cookbooks are a great way to begin with recipes if you are nervous to start from scratch!
Steven is a Junior in high school and an aspiring health-engineering research scholar and neurologist. He has a lot of experience already from bioengineering research to unmanned aerial vehicle assembly and analysis! For those interested in engineering, Steven suggests staying consistent and always focusing on improvement!
Mitchell is a student at Virginia Tech studying math. He works primarily with our @home team, but is here in person this summer. Mitchell is so excited to share his love of coding with all the students!
