This is especially true over the summer, when children typically lose 2-3 months of math skills during the school break. It’s called the Summer Slide, and the loss can be cumulative over the years, which can lead to lower school performance and a decline in confidence. The good news is that kids who keep up their math skills over the break can beat the summer slide and feel ready for what’s to come in the fall. Make time for relaxation, leisure and play, but also get those learning muscles flexing regularly so that your child is both well-rested and ready to hit the ground running for the start of the autumn term!
