Steve

Lead Instuctor

Steva has a BA in math from Temple University and an MS in math from Northeastern University. He is working as an engineer for a little more than 40 years. He is working part time as an engineer as he transitions towards retirement. He is working as a math tutor/instructor as part of this transition.  He enjoyed being a math tutor while in college where he assisted other students with Algebra up to Calculus.  He has always liked math since early elementary school, where he got to use math to understand baseball statistics and to keep score in bowling. He is very proud to bring the mathnasium method to local community. He likes Mathnasium’s approach of tailoring the curriculum to each individual and instructing on a personal level, allowing him to easily see a student’s growth as time goes on. He  loves spending time with family and friends as well as volunteering in local community.

Nahin has a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of South Carolina. After finishing her MS in Statistics, she has taught undergraduate and graduate level students in college. During her teaching, she focused on delivering simple techniques to students so that they can easily understand the material. Her fascination with math started from her childhood, which led her to study Statisticsa and desire to teach math to children. She thinks children in early ages should have opportunity to build math skills. She has a passion is to help children to acquire math skills. In her spare time, she likes gardening and traveling to different places.

John

Instructor
John Forino participated in a five-year, dual-degree program in college and received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Fairfield University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Connecticut. He began his college career as a math major but, as he says, "went over to the dark side" and switched to computer science. He spent many years in the computer industry working for companies like Raytheon, Digital Equipment, US Robotics, 3Com, Nextpoint Networks, and NetScout Systems. He worked as a software developer, project leader, and development manager throughout his career concentrating on computer networks and embedded systems. John recently left the computer industry and was excited to get back into the math field. He is looking forward to working with the kids and igniting their fire in math learning.

He is currently a mathematics master’s student at Umass Lowell. Mark has a BA in political science with a minor in mathematics at Umass Lowell. In addition, he wrote two theses in Political Science and Philosophy respectively, and he was the president of the Philosophy Club. He was drawn to mathematics for its applications in political science. However, in his undergraduate studies he began to appreciate math for its own sake. He found the beauty, elegance, and wealth of applications math offers to be extraordinary. His passion for math combined with his Socratic thinking process is what brought him to Mathnasium. Outside of the classroom, Mark cannot stay away from learning; he enjoys discussing philosophy with his friends, appreciating classical music, and playing board games.

Mayank

Director of Marketing and Community Outreach
Mayank earned a Master degree in Innovation and Technology from Boston University. He has 20 years of experience working in information technology utilizing mathematics for product design, development, testing, and quantitative analysis. He has always had a love for math, and after teaching with his two children and others at their school, he realized how much of a need there is for instruction above and beyond what school provides. Every student can succeed and even excel in math with the proper tools and support. Mayank's ultimate goal is to help students to understand math and become mathematically fluent. He is looking forward to empowering the children in the community with math skills which will boost their confidence level and make them great innovators. He believes that "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life" and he agrees strongly with the Mathnasium mission: "To teach math to students in a way that makes the most sense to them."

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
