Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Sandy McVoy

Center Director
Sandy is the Center Director at Mathnasium of West Lexington. Sandy was excited to begin working at Mathnasium because it allows her to challenge herself and help students gain confidence by becoming Masters of Math! Sandy brings with her experience in real estate, running Head Start Centers, teaching at the Salvation Army, among other things. Mathnasium is fortunate to have such a passionate and hard working Center Director. Sandy has been married for 23 years and has 2 children. Her daughter, a figure skater, is a Senior at Adrian College in Michigan. Her son is a Freshman at BCTC and plays Hockey for the Northern Cyclones in New Hampshire. Sandy loves to cook and try new foods.

Maggie Andres

Assistant Center Director
Maggie is a senior at UK studying Biochemistry and Psychology. She's always loved math and strives to teach a similar appreciation to students. When she's not teaching at Mathnasium, you'll find her working at UK's Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center studying traumatic brain injury, crocheting, or playing with her cats, Sid and Shadow.

Jessica Scifres

Assistant Center Director
Jess plays an integral role in keeping our Mathnasium center running smoothly. She handles binders, keeps things organized, and prepares the instructors for a successful day of tutoring. She's seen the effects of Mathnasium from the inside and out, in an administrative position and as a mother of two students here. She loves helping kids grow and learn the importance of math and the skills needed for it.

Rachel Whitehead

Instructor
Rachel is currently a teacher with Fayette County Public Schools. Mathnasium interested her as a way to help prepare her for being in a math classroom. She's a very caring teacher who tends to the needs of individuals, rather than just teaching to a class. She does a wonderful job of getting to know each and every student she interacts with.

Grace Jacobs

Instructor
Grace is excited to see how Mathnasium promotes math in a way that students enjoy. She hopes she can show students that learning math doesn't have to be burdensome or frustrating, but can actually be fun! She is currently enrolled at UK working towards a career in pediatric medicine. She has her family here in Lexington including her sister Kate and a tiny lizard named Buddy. She has played soccer internationally in the Netherlands and England. She also loves to rock climb, ride horses, and read. She is another one of our instructors who works mainly online with our Mathnasium @Home students.

Ben Bratten

Instructor
Ben is a sophomore at Texas A&M University pursuing an honors degree in chemistry. He intends to go to med school or pharmacy school. He has five younger siblings, not counting his long history with frogs. His biggest priority as a tutor is making kids feel comfortable so that they can learn math as stress-free as possible. While not at Mathnasium, he's whipping up tacos or playing Mario Kart and Zelda.

Elizabeth Nieto

Instructor
Elizabeth is a sophomore at the University of Kentucky studying Russian & International Economics. She hopes to work for the CIA in the future as a Russian interpreter. Elizabeth was a student here at Mathnasium during her high school years when she needed help with her calculus class. Since then, she has come back to work here as an instructor to pass on her love of math and to help give kids the confidence to succeed in math. When she is not working at Mathnasium, you can find Elizabeth singing, studying Russian, watching horror movies or snuggled up with her dog Radar.

Cody Boesch

Instructor
Cody is a freshman at UK studying Aerospace Engineering and is hoping to work for NASA. He's always loved math and hopes to create the same drive in other students. He started at Mathnasium as a student and loves to snow ski and hang out with friends.

Anson Wang

Instructor
Anson is a Junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He enjoys teaching as it helps reinforce concepts for his own studies as well. When he's not tutoring he can be found playing video games and avoiding tap water like the plague.

Rohan Desai

Instructor
Rohan is a sophomore pre-med student at UK. When he was young, Rohan was in a similar program to Mathnasium, and hopes to help facilitate the same enjoyable environment that he experienced as a young student. When he's not tutoring, Rohan enjoys playing tennis, and trying out new restaurants.

Madison Bell

Instructor
Madi is starting a career as a middle school science teacher. She began working at Mathnasium through her degree program and decided to stay on as an instructor as teaching is a passion of hers. She wants to make an impact on her community by teaching students essential skills. When she's not at Mathnasium, she's probably training for a marathon.

Amber Knight

Instructor
Amber is finishing up at Lafayette High School. She finds math to be one of her strong suits, and wants to take this into a career in aerospace engineering. She likes helping students at all levels, and does everything she can to foster an encouraging teaching environment. When she's not at Mathnasium, she can be found composing movie scores and playing the violin.

Fred Hatchett

Instructor
Fred is seeking a degree in music at the University of Kentucky during his retirement. He's a passionate, encouraging tutor who has always loved math. His goal with Mathnasium is to share that love for math with youngsters who have yet to discover it. When he's not helping students learn, he's playing tenor sax or electric bass with bands around town (including the March Madness Marching Band)!

Mary Richardson

Instructor
Mary is a junior at Lafayette who just so happens to be ambidextrous. Similarly, she tries to be very flexible with students, encouraging their learning in a subject that can be a struggle. Her biggest piece of advice is to never argue with a 90° angle, as it'll always be right.

Arushi Bansal

Instructor
Arushi is a senior at Sayre. She plans to go pre-med to become a physician, as she loves helping people grow. She loves the learning environment at Mathnasium, and hopes to help every student learn enough to understand this joke she once heard. It goes, "there are three types of people in the world. Those who can count and those who can't!"

Sofia DeSalvo

Instructor
Sofia, a senior at Lafayette High School, loves math and working with kids. She plans to become a doctor or an engineer, which tracks with her goal of helping kids problem-solve. In theory, her ideal math teacher has a very special pet: a π-thon!

Pranav Kuna

Instructor
Pranav is a junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He's a motivated, talented instructor who enjoys math. He wants to pursue a career in mathematics, solving real-world problems. He likes that Mathnasium allows students to learn math at an accelerated pace, and tries to help them get ahead where he can.

Ella Sewell

Instructor
Ella is a student at Lafayette High School. She jumps at any opportunity she can to sharpen her own math skills, and she encourages students to do the same. She loves the workout aspect of Mathnasium, because, as a future physical therapist, she understands how much growth consistent work and training can lead to. She helps every student she works with to become a division 1 mathlete.

Emerson Meyers

Instructor
Emerson is a senior at Bryan Station High School with a passion for math. She hopes to go into aerospace engineering, which aligns with her hobby of engineering and assembling jewelry. She was once a student at Mathnasium and enjoyed how it made learning fun. As an instructor, she hopes to pass that on and make learning fun for the students that she helps.

Michelle McCrory

Instructor
Michelle is an FCPS teacher who has worked with a variety of grade levels. She has two sons and three cats. She's worked in the realm of psychology, which has led to a teaching philosophy that revolves around instilling confidence in students. She finds it very important that students not only learn fundamental math skills, but feel comfortable going wrong and recovering from their mistakes.

Ayaan Arain

Instructor
Ayaan is a Junior at Dunbar High School. He is in the MSTC program and is planning to go into pre-medicine in hopes of becoming a doctor. He has two sisters. Ayaan shows a great attitude to help students progress in math and gain math skills at Mathnasium.

Ben Carey

Instructor
Ben is a Senior at Woodford County High School. He lives with his parents and six siblings. Ben is very passionate about math and helping children grasp mathematical concepts and gain confidence at Mathnasium.

Elena (Leo) Duncan

Instructor
Elena (aka Leo) is a Senior at Lafayette High School. She has two sisters and a dog and cat. Elena's hard work ethic and enthusiasm show, as she strives to help kids learn to love aspects of math and overcome their fear of math. She hopes to become a teacher or Mathematician.

Owen Wong

Instructor
Owen is a Senior at UK with a math major. He wants to become a Data Analyst or a math teacher. He has a cat named King Winston Wong Churchill III. Owen is enthusiastic about math and enjoys teaching children math concepts.

Christopher (Chris) Garcia

Instructor
Chris is a freshman at UK, studying computer science. He has always enjoyed math and can play the saxophone and is a self proclaimed Connect-4 champion. He would like to have a job in software development when he graduates from college. Chris has a passion to help children enjoy and understand math better.

Joey Sharpe

Instructor
Joey is a Senior at Lafayette High School. She loves math and helping people with math, and Mathnasium helps foster her love of numbers. She has one sister and her dream pet is a ferret. Joey really enjoys working with children to help them love math the same way she does!

Emerson Myers

Instructor
Emerson is a Senior at Bryan Station High School. Her goal is to become an Aerospace Engineer. She lives with her Dad and Mom, sister, cat and dog. The kids at Mathnasium love Emerson! She has a huge passion in helping kids in their math journey!

Michelle McCrory

Instructor
Michelle is a substitute teacher in Fayette County Public Schools. She is a mother of two sons ages 20 and 12. She has three loving cats. Michelle loves Mathnasium and helping children improve their math skills and gain more confidence in math.

Pranav Kuna

Instructor
Pranav is a Junior at Dunbar High School. He is in the MSTC program. He enjoys math, and is good at solving the rubix cube. He would like to pursue a career in math and use math to solve real world problems. Pranav enjoys working at Mathnasium and helping kids have a better understanding of math concepts in a way that makes sense and builds their confidence.
