Sandy McVoy

Center Director
Sandy is the Center Director at Mathnasium of West Lexington. Sandy was excited to begin working at Mathnasium because it allows her to challenge herself and help students gain confidence by becoming Masters of Math! Sandy brings with her experience in real estate, running Head Start Centers, teaching at the Salvation Army, among other things. Mathnasium is fortunate to have such a passionate and hard working Center Director. Sandy has been married for 23 years and has 2 children. Her daughter, a figure skater, is a Senior at Adrian College in Michigan. Her son is a Freshman at BCTC and plays Hockey for the Northern Cyclones in New Hampshire. Sandy loves to cook and try new foods.

Jessica Scifres

Assistant Center Director
Jess plays an integral role in keeping our Mathnasium center running smoothly. She handles binders, keeps things organized, and prepares the instructors for a successful day of tutoring. She's seen the effects of Mathnasium from the inside and out, in an administrative position and as a mother of two students here. She loves helping kids grow and learn the importance of math and the skills needed for it.

Michelle M.

Assistant Center Director
Michelle is our Assistant Center Director! She is also an FCPS teacher who has worked with a variety of grade levels. She has two sons and three cats. She's worked in the realm of psychology, which has led to a teaching philosophy that revolves around instilling confidence in students. She finds it very important that students not only learn fundamental math skills, but feel comfortable going wrong and recovering from their mistakes.

Rachel W.

Instructor
Rachel is currently a teacher with Fayette County Public Schools. Mathnasium interested her as a way to help prepare her for being in a math classroom. She's a very caring teacher who tends to the needs of individuals, rather than just teaching to a class. She does a wonderful job of getting to know each and every student she interacts with.

Elizabeth N.

Instructor
Elizabeth is a sophomore at the University of Kentucky studying Russian & International Economics. She hopes to work for the CIA in the future as a Russian interpreter. Elizabeth was a student here at Mathnasium during her high school years when she needed help with her calculus class. Since then, she has come back to work here as an instructor to pass on her love of math and to help give kids the confidence to succeed in math. When she is not working at Mathnasium, you can find Elizabeth singing, studying Russian, watching horror movies or snuggled up with her dog Radar.

Mary R.

Instructor
Mary is a junior at Lafayette who just so happens to be ambidextrous. Similarly, she tries to be very flexible with students, encouraging their learning in a subject that can be a struggle. Her biggest piece of advice is to never argue with a 90° angle, as it'll always be right.

Arushi B.

Instructor
Arushi is a senior at Sayre. She plans to go pre-med to become a physician, as she loves helping people grow. She loves the learning environment at Mathnasium, and hopes to help every student learn enough to understand this joke she once heard. It goes, "there are three types of people in the world. Those who can count and those who can't!"

Ayaan A.

Instructor

Ayaan is a Junior at Dunbar High School. He is in the MSTC program and is planning to go into pre-medicine in hopes of becoming a doctor. He has two sisters. Ayaan shows a great attitude to help students progress in math and gain math skills at Mathnasium.

Elena (Leo) D.

Instructor
Elena (aka Leo) is a Freshman at the University of Kentucky. She has two sisters and a dog and cat. Elena's hard work ethic and enthusiasm show, as she strives to help kids learn to love aspects of math and overcome their fear of math. She hopes to become a teacher or Mathematician.

Christopher (Chris) G.

Instructor
Chris is a freshman at UK, studying computer science. He has always enjoyed math and can play the saxophone and is a self proclaimed Connect-4 champion. He would like to have a job in software development when he graduates from college. Chris has a passion to help children enjoy and understand math better.

Andrew R.

Instructor

Andrew loves teaching math. He has a Bachelor in Business Administration and a Master of Arts in teaching. His career goal is to become a high school math teacher.

Jack B.

Instructor
Jack enjoys teaching math, and has an aptitude for working with children. He goes to Highschool in Jessamine County. He lives with his parents, his younger brother, and their two cats. He enjoys martial arts, and has competed nationally.

Gracie F.

Instructor
Gracie is a junior at the University of Kentucky studying Civil Engineering with hopes to get into urban planning when she graduates. She has always had an interest in math, and helping students learn to enjoy math at Mathnasium has inspired her to pursue a math minor. Other than tutoring math, Gracie enjoys reading, crocheting, and doing anything outdoors!

Layton C.

Instructor

Layton is a Junior at Lafayette High School.  His passion is playing soccer. Layton use to come to Mathnasium as a student and loved the staff so much and how welcoming the environment was.  He now enjoys working with children to help them learn new math skills and to gain more confidence in math.

Hafsa A.

Instructor

Hafsa is a Senior at Dunbar High School.  She loves animals, baking, and reading books.  She has four brothers, two cats, 2 parakeets, and two chickens.  Hafsa loves being an instructor at Mathnasium and working with kids to help improve their math skills.  

Amora R.

Instructor

Amora is a freshman at the University of Kentucky working on a dual degree in both business management and computer engineering.  Her career goals are to become a lawyer with the Marine Corps.  Amora knows marital arts and programming.  She enjoys working at Mathnasium and inspiring other children to learn math skills in a way that builds their confidence.

Thomas C.

Instructor

Thomas is a Sophomore at Dunbar High School.  He enjoys playing tennis in his free time.  His career goal is to be a programmer. Thomas loves math, and he really enjoys the environment of Mathnasium and working with children to help math make sense to them.

Audrey T.

Instructor

Audrey is currently working on a Management and Public Health Major at the University of Kentucky.  She hopes to be a dentist someday. She loves to be outdoors, and enjoys gardening.  Audrey has a very friendly personality and loves teaching math and helping children, while watching their confidence grow!
