This Halloween, we’re bringing back one of our favorite math-inspired traditions—Halloween Hexaflexagons! These curious little creations aren’t just fun to fold, they’re also a great way to spark wonder and excitement about geometry.
A hexaflexagon is a paper shape that you can fold and “flex” to reveal hidden faces. At first glance, it looks like a simple hexagon, but as you play with it, new sides appear in surprising ways. It’s part puzzle, part magic trick, and part math marvel. Exploring how it works helps students strengthen spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and curiosity—all while having fun.
This year, we’re updating the designs with fresh Halloween themes. Along with the printable PDF, we’re including a short history of hexaflexagons and a helpful YouTube tutorial to guide you through folding them step by step. Watch the Tutorial Here! and download the Printable PDF Here!
We encourage you to print a batch, fold them, and hand them out to trick-or-treaters—either as a brain candy or a candy alternative if you run out of sweets. It’s a small way to share the joy of math and make this Halloween a little more magical (and educational!).
