Pi Day 2022

Mar 5, 2022 | Yukon

Pi Day — a fun way to celebrate math!

When is Pi Day? Each year, we celebrate Pi Day on March 14th (3-14), because the date is a common estimation of Pi (3.14).  Fun Fact:  In countries where the date is written day-month, Pi Day is celebrated on July 22nd (22-7) because the fraction 22/7 is also an estimation of pi!

Why do we celebrate Pi Day? Pi is in the world all around us.  Pi is naturally as the ratio of the circumference and diameter of a circle.  But pi is also necessary for science based fields, such as engineering, and also the medical field!  Pi is found in many structures from spheres to even the DNA helix!

How can we celebrate? Take time to enjoy some fun math acticies and puzzles that include circles and pi!  And of course, enjoy some circular shaped treats, like cookies, donuts, and obviously pie!
