Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:
Lori Kim, Center Director
My name is Lori Kim and I am the New Center Director at Mathnasium of North Costa Mesa. I opened my first Mathnasium center in 2016 and I am excited to take ownership of this North Costa Mesa location. Prior to joining Mathnasium, I was a full time mother to my three school aged daughters.
Karenne, Assistant Center Director
Karenne is passionate about helping students discover their own intelligence, particularly in Math, and has nearly ten years of experience tutoring Math. Her number one love and joy is her beautiful rescue dog, Elvis. Karenne is very competitive and likes to be the best at anything she does, and is an unofficial chocolate chip cookie connoisseur. Karenne uses Math to impart knowledge, and in practice she uses Math to make sound consumer decisions. She is fascinated by the Inverse Theorem, in part because it is integral to so much of math, but also to critical thinking.
Matthias, @Home Director
Matthias is a graduate of UC San Diego, with a degree in Mathematics - Computer Science. Prior to joining the North Costa Mesa Mathnasium team, Matthias was the Assistant Center Director at Mathnasium of La Jolla. Matthias enjoys playing board games with friends, coding, trying new foods, and waiting for the next Marvel movie to be released. In his free time, he loves to visit Disneyland at least two or three times a month. His favorite mathematical concept is pascal's triangle, and not just because it looks cool! He thinks the most important geometric shape is the triangle, because after learning the shape, you will never stop using it, no matter what topic of math you are working on! His favorite thing about Mathnasium is using his expertise of STEM topics to emphasize the real world importance of the math that a student is learning. He believes that discovering a love of math at a young age is integral to pursuing that interest as a career, or even just as a hobby. He provides great leadership for our students while making math fun!
Breanna is currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of California, Irvine. She uses Math on a day to day basis to solve real life problems besides when in school. At Mathnasium, Breanna is driven by her ambition to help students view Math with a positive light. She looks forward to working with students, helping them understand and feel confident with every math problem they come across. Breanna’s favorite Math concept is solving algebraic equations while her favorite geometrical shape is a right triangle! On the side of her passion for Math, Breanna enjoys playing competitive sports, such as basketball and baseball, and taking trips to Disneyland!
Cuong is a freshman at Orange Coast College studying Computer Science. He enjoys hanging out with friends, playing basketball and watching Youtube for coding and technology videos. Cuong began working at Mathnasium in April 2019. He loves Math and wants to help students to get better at Math and will eventually love Math like he does.
Alan is a student at University of California, Irvine studying Biology. He loves working at Mathnasium because of the big difference he can make when helping to teach kids to understand and break down concepts. He enjoys refreshing and honing his own math skills by teaching others, which is very handy when studying Pre-Med! Alan's favorite mathematical concept is the Fibonacci sequence because it created the idea of the "golden ratio". His favorite geometric shape is the sphere because it has no beginning or end.
Taylor is currently a senior at Vanguard University studying Mathematics. She plans on pursuing a career in engineering, and continuing her education. She believes Mathnasium is a wonderful place to work, as she can help others to love math as much as she does! Taylor loves to read and spend time at the beach, as well as play softball on the Vanguard team. She believes math is important because, as she loves to shop, math helps her make smart purchase decisions! Her favorite mathematical concept is differential equations, because it is a combination of calculus and algebra. Her favorite geometric shape is a rhombus, because it is the coolest parallelogram!
Remi is currently starting her first year at UCI as a Math major. She enjoys using math to share her knowledge with others and to help them understand topics. In her free time, she enjoys embroidery. At Mathnasium, she aims to help students enjoy math and feel confident in their skills. Her favorite mathematical concept is calculus, and her favorite geometric shape is a square.
Sarah is currently a Mathematics Education major at Vanguard University, where she also runs cross country and track. She enjoys working for Mathnasium because it helps her hone important teaching skills she can use in her future classroom, while helping students here acheive success in their own mathematics careers. Sarah uses math every day both in her classes and in her everyday life. She loves how the problem solving and critical thinking skills needed to solve math exercises can also be applied to daily tasks. Sarah's favorite mathematical concept is the unit circle and all of its applications, and her favorite geometric shape is a circle, because it seems simple until you try to draw it!
Gillian is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, with degrees in physics and dance. She hopes to share her passion for math with students and to encourage them to achieve their best. In her free time, Gillian loves to read, embroider, and crochet. Gillian uses math as a way to help solve problems and to think critically about the way the world works. Her favorite concept is linear algebra, and her favorite geometric shape is the triangle.
