Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

Sharon Palardy, M.Ed., Owner

Sharon was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and has been a resident of Hampton Roads since 2001.  When Sharon was 14, she begged her parents to volunteer at a local hospital.  She knew from an early age that it was her passion to help others.  Having studied piano since the age of 8, she decided to combine both her love of music and helping others.  She received a music scholarship to Loyola University (New Orleans) where she completed a bachelor's degree in music therapy.  Sharon furthered her education by going back to school and receiving her master's degree in special education from the University of New Orleans.  After several years of being a Special Education teacher, she decided that she wanted to specialize in teaching students with visual impairments.  She has been teaching students with visual impairments now for 20 years.

Our personal experience with Mathnasium:

Our daughter began attending a local Mathnasium in September 2017.  At that time, we enrolled her due to test anxiety.  She would choke up on every timed test that was given to her.  The teacher kept telling us that she didn't know her math facts.  As parents, we were very frustrated.  We were unable to help her on our own.  Not only did Mathnasium eliminate her test anxiety but she has now grown into a confident math student and is now excelling in math.  Our mission is to help other parents going through the same experience.  We've seen first hand how Mathnasium's unique program can help students.

Jose, Lead Instructor

I’ve loved math for as long as I can remember. I’ve been tutoring all levels of math to students of all ages since I graduated high school. I received my Associate’s degree in mathematics and currently, I’m a math major at ODU. I am working towards both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mathematics and I am a MonarchTeach student which means I am studying to be a high school math teacher. In my spare time, I like to play the drums and do even more math!

Jenesis, Instructor

I am a Virginia Tech graduate with a BS in Mathematics. When I was young, I did well in my math classes but never really had a big passion for it. However, after taking calculus in high school I saw a glimpse of how beautiful math can really be, and my passion for it started to develop. I even started to teach myself all sorts of interesting mathematics in my spare time just for fun. My hope is that I can help others enjoy and succeed in the subject I love and potentially foster a similar passion for math in others!

Josh, Instructor

I am a sophomore attending Virginia Tech as a Computer Science Major. I was greatly helped along by friends, colleagues, and teachers when I studied calculus in high school and continue to be helped along by those same people now in more advanced classes like Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra. I understand how helpful a program like Mathnasium can be in fostering mathematical literacy. As an instructor, it's my sincere hope that I can do my part, however small, to help students understand the world a little better through math."

Gabe, Instructor

Hello! my name is Gabriel Gonzalez and I am 17 years old. I am currently a senior at Ocean Lakes High school at the Math and Science Academy. When I was young I struggled with my math speed but thanks to the help of my caring teachers, I became one of the best math students in my class. Because of these teachers, I have learned so much and have come closer to accomplishing my dreams, and that is why I love working at Mathnasium.

Ava, Instructor

Hello! I’m a senior in the Math and Science Academy at Ocean Lakes High School and a member of Ocean Lakes’ Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow class. Besides an interest in math, I also have a passion for teaching others, something I plan to pursue in college as an education student. I hope to give students the skills and confidence to not only do well in math classes, but to enjoy them! In my free time, I enjoy reading and performing as captain of the Ocean Lakes High School Color Guard.

Adam, Instructor

I am a senior in the Math and Science Academy at Ocean Lakes High School. I have always loved using my skills to teach others and help them grow. After high school, I want to go to college and study engineering. I spend my free time playing music and teaching others as part of the leadership team for the Ocean Lakes Marching Dolphins.

David, Instructor

David Barnes received his Bachelor's degree in mathematics with a concentration in nanoscience from Hampton University in May 2019. With a mind for math, he taught himself calculus in highschool, and with a desire to inspire others in math, he has been tutoring students in math ranging from elementary and middle school math to calculus and college-level statistics for the last 10 years. His interests include music, reading, and of course...math!
