Sharon Palardy, M.Ed., Owner
Sharon was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and has been a resident of Hampton Roads since 2001. When Sharon was 14, she begged her parents to volunteer at a local hospital. She knew from an early age that it was her passion to help others. Having studied piano since the age of 8, she decided to combine both her love of music and helping others. She received a music scholarship to Loyola University (New Orleans) where she completed a bachelor's degree in music therapy. Sharon furthered her education by going back to school and receiving her master's degree in special education from the University of New Orleans. After several years of being a Special Education teacher, she decided that she wanted to specialize in teaching students with visual impairments. She has been teaching students with visual impairments now for almost 20 years.
Our personal experience with Mathnasium:
Our daughter began attending a local Mathnasium in September 2017. At that time, we enrolled her due to test anxiety. She would choke up on every timed test that was given to her. The teacher kept telling us that she didn't know her math facts. As parents, we were very frustrated. We were unable to help her on our own. Not only did Mathnasium eliminate her test anxiety but she has now grown into a confident math student and is now excelling in math. Our mission is to help other parents going through the same experience. We've seen first hand how Mathnasium's unique program can help students.
Shelley, Center Director
I am very happy to be back in my hometown, Virginia Beach, after years in the midwestern frozen tundra of Ohio. Although math was my best subject in school, it never occurred to me to make a career of it. At least not until Sharon asked me to be her Center Director. My experience running bookstores, cafes, office supply stores & print centers has taught me the importance of good customer service and that solid math skills are vital to any career path you choose. My lifelong passions are photography & reading. If the weather is nice, I will most likely be outside taking pictures. If the weather is not nice, I will most likely be inside reading.
Jose, Lead Instructor
I’ve loved math for as long as I can remember. I’ve been tutoring all levels of math to students of all ages since I graduated high school. I recently received my Associate’s degree in mathematics and currently, I’m a math major at ODU. I am working towards both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mathematics and I am a MonarchTeach student which means I am studying to be a high school math teacher. In my spare time, I like to play the drums and do even more math!
Hi! I’m Daniel and I currently attend the University of Virginia (go hoos!) with the intended major of Biomedical Engineering. I am also a graduate of the IB Program at Princess Anne High School. After having a great Geometry teacher in 8th grade, math became one of my favorite subjects. Math is such a testament to the fact that there is always a better way to do things in the world. I love serving others and hope to pursue leadership positions in college. Looking forward to meeting you soon!
I am a Virginia Tech graduate with a BS in Mathematics. When I was young, I did well in my math classes but never really had a big passion for it. However, after taking calculus in high school I saw a glimpse of how beautiful math can really be, and my passion for it started to develop. I even started to teach myself all sorts of interesting mathematics in my spare time just for fun. My hope is that I can help others enjoy and succeed in the subject I love and potentially foster a similar passion for math in others!
I am a sophomore attending Virginia Tech as a Computer Science Major. I was greatly helped along by friends, colleagues, and teachers when I studied calculus in high school and continue to be helped along by those same people now in more advanced classes like Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra. I understand how helpful a program like Mathnasium can be in fostering mathematical literacy. As an instructor, it's my sincere hope that I can do my part, however small, to help students understand the world a little better through math."
I'm a senior at Princess Anne High School in the IB Program. My love for math comes from a series of very good teachers and supportive parents throughout elementary school, who helped me to see the fun and opportunity in mathematics. Since then, I have taught or helped teach students of various levels. For me, the joy of teaching comes from seeing a student finally overcome that barrier that has persistently held them back from their goals. I am thrilled to be a part of your learning journey!
I am a senior in the Math and Science Academy at Ocean Lakes High School. I have always loved using my skills to teach others and help them grow. After high school, I want to go to college and study engineering. I spend my free time playing music and teaching others as part of the leadership team for the Ocean Lakes Marching Dolphins.
