Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Travis

Lead Instructor

Travis is pursuing a degree in math education at the University of California, Irvine, with plans to become a classroom teacher. He brings a thoughtful and relatable teaching style to Mathnasium, making complex topics more accessible and engaging for students at all levels.

He enjoys helping kids build the skills and confidence they need to succeed not only in math, but in life. When he’s not working with students, Travis spends time with his girlfriend and hones his skills in puzzles and strategy games. This summer, he’s looking forward to a teaching fellowship abroad in Ireland.

Sofia

Lead Instructor

Sofia is a Long Beach native and graduate of Renaissance High School for the Arts. She’s currently studying Mathematics at Long Beach City College and is passionate about helping students overcome math anxiety by breaking down topics in ways that are easy to grasp.

She aspires to teach math professionally and sees her work at Mathnasium as a step toward that goal. Sofia loves seeing the “aha” moments when students realize they’re capable of mastering tough material. In her free time, she enjoys singing and immersing herself in fantasy and science fiction books.

Nick K.

Director of Operations

Nick earned his BA in education from California State University, Long Beach, and has tutored students in math from 1st through 12th grade for over two years. His approachable style and ability to simplify concepts make him a valuable mentor to both students and staff.

Before joining Mathnasium, Nick worked as an after-school skateboard instructor for eight years, helping kids develop discipline and resilience. He brings that same energy and encouragement into the learning center every day, working to ensure every student builds a strong foundation and finds confidence through math.

Andrew B.

Founder

Andrew is a South Bay native who studied mathematics at Dartmouth College. His deep appreciation for the subject drives his mission to help students grow not only in skills, but in confidence. He leads with the belief that math is a powerful tool for thinking critically and solving real-world problems.

As Head of Operations, Andrew supports a team of instructors who are just as passionate about helping students thrive. His goal is to make learning math an enjoyable and empowering journey, one that unlocks a lifetime of academic and personal success for every child.

Instructor Team

At Mathnasium, our instructors are the heart of everything we do. Each team member is carefully selected, thoroughly background-checked, and trained over several months before they ever work with students. Most are college-level or above—we rarely hire high school students—and we continue training them every two weeks to stay sharp in both Mathnasium methods and Common Core standards.

We take pride in supporting our instructors so they can give your child the best experience possible. That includes offering competitive pay to attract top talent and making sure everyone on our team meets the highest standards.

What makes our program especially strong is that our leadership team is made up entirely of former instructors. That means every decision we make is grounded in real teaching experience and a deep understanding of what helps students grow and thrive.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
