Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

 

Center Director

Lila is extremely passionate about kids and ensuring that they receive the best education. She has some experience working with kids from various age ranges. In the past, she was a teacher's assistant at Richards Middle School as well as a peer tutor for high schoolers. She had the privilege of working with 5th graders at McKendree and Rock Springs Elementary Schools, implementing science labs, and managing classroom behaviors. In addition to that, she has also been chosen to work side by side with professors where she hosts study sessions for college students and help guide them in Genetics courses, becoming the first and only PSI leader for Genetics at the time. By using her background knowledge of teaching, she strives to inspire kids and show that math can be conquered when using Mathnasium methods.

 

Tabitha Bass, Lead Instructor

Tabitha is married with three children ranging from 4 – 14 years old. Furthermore, she is originally from a small town in Ohio named Lima.  After graduating from high school, Tabitha moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Spelman College.  She graduated from Spelman in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.  Her teaching certificate (2006), master’s (2008), and specialist (2010) degrees were obtained from Mercer University. Additionally, Tabitha has 15 years of teaching experience.  She has taught for 10 years in a middle school setting and 5 years in high school.  The majority of her teaching career has been in Title I schools located outside of Atlanta.  While teaching in middle school, she taught 6th and 8th grade standard and accelerated math courses.  Since transitioning from middle to high school, she has taught Accelerated Algebra 1, Algebra 1, and Geometry.

 

Alan Le, Lead Instructor

Alan is a junior currently attending Brookwood High School. His favorite subject is unsurprisingly, math. He is a part of Mu Alpha Theta, the school’s Math Honors Society, the math team, and various other clubs around the school. He chose to be an instructor here at Mathnasium because he enjoys working and helping others and hopes to spread his passion for math and develop his skills for the future.

 

 

Waleed Ghaus, Lead Instructor

Waleed Ghaus is a senior at Brookwood High School. He has always loved math and science as opposed to Language Arts because he loved to think about all the different ways to work with numbers and how they can help in the real world. In addition, he is very fond of teaching others as he has instructed in Gwinnett County Public Libraries, in school with other kids, and at Kumon. Waleed uses the skills he learned in school and from Mathnasium in school to succeed in his higher-level math classes. Waleed will continue to use the Mathnasium Methods in the future when he attends college as he knows these will benefit him and put him above the rest.

 

Ciara Mitchell, Instructor

Ciara is a senior at Brookwood High School where she serves as the President of the National Beta, a Secretary State Student Ambassador, Science National Honors Society Vice President, and Student Government Vice President. Her favorite subject is math and she enjoys working with younger kids. Math is her favorite subject because there are many techniques to find one solution. Her philosophy is, “When you can’t seem to solve a problem, change the methodology, not the goa!l” She decided to work at Mathnasium because she has the opportunity to combine her passion for math and teaching. What Ciara loves most about Mathnasium is the relationships she is able to build with her students through mastering math concepts. She hopes to pursue a career in biomedical engineering and oncology in college

 

Daniel Kim, Instructor

Dan is a graduate of Georgia Tech in Industrial & Systems Engineering. He is also working towards additional Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at University of the People and American Public University, respectively. As it is his longer term goal to gointo the field of Data Science, he is currently getting certified in Data Science, Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. During his time at Georgia Tech, Dan served as a 1-1 Tutor, Group Tutor, and Teaching Assistant under multiple departments for various STEM courses. Through the lens of his experience, Dan sees the Mathnasium method as robust and thus seeks to add its elements to his repertoire of skills in order to help students achieve true confidence in their ability to do math. Dan's favorite part of the Mathnasium method is that it acknowledges that there are both intellectual and emotional aspects of learning math; thus offering a more complete approach to mastery.

 

Gabriel Amat, Instructor

Gabriel Amat originally came from Cuba when he was 12 years old. He is an applied mathematics major at Georgia Gwinnett College. His main interests are the applications of mathematics to Artificial Intelligence, and he loves to tutor trigonometry. His main passion is to help students overcome the math anxiety that may arise at school for some children, something that stunts what could otherwise be a beautiful relationship. He very much enjoys helping kids see the beauty that can be found in mathematics by using Mathnasium methods.

 

Maryam Shariff, Instructor

Maryam is a senior at Archer High School, and the Team Captain of the Science Bowl Team, CoPresident of SNHS, CoFounder of Environmental Initiative, and CoFounder of Archer's Peer-Led Tutoring Program. She is interested in oncology, the environment, and most of all, math! Maryam expresses that math should be fun, and interested in oncology, the environment, and most of all, math! Maryam expresses that math should be fun, and carries this message through data compilation during scientific research, math trivia competitions, and helping her classmates at school. Maryam enjoys connecting with others to help them understand complex subjects, and through the Mathnasium methods, Maryam aims to encourage others to love math as much as she does.

Silmi Keshwani, Instructor

Silmi is a senior at Brookwood High School and will be attending Emory University in the fall to study biology. She is an officer for the National Math Honor Society, Treasurer for the National Honor Society, and a member of the Spanish and Science National Honor Society. Silmi’s favorite subject in school is math because she sees the numbers and problems as exciting puzzles to solve. She uses her passion for numbers and problem solving to help students overcome their fear of math and become confident in their studies. Using the Mathnasium methods, Silmi hopes to encourage all students to love math and be excellent problem solvers.

 

Tyler Ma, Instructor

 Tyler is a senior at Brookwood high school and the treasurer of the technology student association. As can probably be assumed he loves math and helping others no matter what it is. He has experience tutoring high schoolers of various grades at his school's academic intervention program. He loves the feeling of having helped someone understand something whether it's basic fractions or trigonometry. Tyler does his best to understand others and helps others understand math using the Mathnasium Method.

 

Usman Asif, Instructor

Usman Asif is 18 years old and a senior attending Brookwood High School! Next year, he will be attending Georgia Institute of Technology to study biology. He has always had a passion for math, and it has been his favorite subject since he was a little kid. Usman loves to collaborate with other students on complex math problems and learn from each other. His favorite math class was multi-variable calculus, which he took during his junior year of high school. He is also part of Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Technology Student Association, and Muslim Student Association. His favorite hobbies outside of school include tennis and piano, both of which he plays regularly. 

 

Victor Nguyen, Instructor

Victor Nguyen is an aspiring junior who attends Berkmar High School. At Berkmar, he’s a varsity cheerleader and a varsity swimmer who loves to stay active. He stretches and rides his bike on his free time but on top of that he loves math. He loves how math always has a unique answer to every problem and enjoys to learn. He hopes to attend The University of Georgia and plans to get a PharmD. At Mathnasium he plans to help others and hopes to use this opportunity and apply it towards his future.

 

 

CenterDirectorSong Phosarath, Owner/General Manager

Song is the Owner and General Manager at Mathnasium of Snellville. Prior to opening his Mathnasium center, Song worked as a Software Product Manager and an ERP Application Consultant for a Wisconsin software firm.  He has a BA in Accounting from Lakeland College.  Having raised three daughters and remembering how much of a struggle it was for him to help them in math while trying to teach them the way that he learned math made Song think that there must be a better way.  Song is a strong believer in the Mathnasium Method of teaching math that helps children understand and master it without frustrating them with drills and drills, so he is passionate about helping the children by applying this method in his center.
