Larry Martinek, Creator of the Mathnasium Method

Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city to public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials designed to help students and teachers learn math more effectively, He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to "do" math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium's educational program - one of the most comprehensive and innovative curricula ever produced for teaching math.

While Larry is not an instructor at our center in Yukon, he is a valuable asset and we can call on him to ask specific student's scenarios for guidance and advice.

 Nick Pham - Instructor

About Nick:  Nick graduated from the University of  Oklahoma with a degree in Microbiology, where he had  3.93 GPA.  He is currently applying to dental school and  has hopes of owning his own practice one day.  He  loves  to play tennis, travel, and hang out with friends and family.

Fun Fact:  He has traveled to 4 different countries in  Europe.

Favorite Math Joke:  Why is the obtuse triangle always  upset?  Because it is never right?

Nick said:  “I love Mathnasium because of the fun environment that is created. When students are having fun  while learning, it makes it very enjoyable to be their instructor.”

Cooper Neff - Instructor

About Cooper:  Coop will be a Senior at Canadian Valley Technology Center in August of 2018 on a pre-engineering track.  He loves the way math is always straight forward and it has always come easily to him.  This was evident when he got a 30 on the ACT with a 32 in Math.  Cooper plans to major in computer engineering.

Fun Fact:  Coop wants to go to a football game in Germany!  Apparently OU vs Texas isn't enough for him every year, eh?

Favorite Math Joke:  What did the circle say to the triangle?  "You are pointless!"

Cooper said:  “I love video games but I realize every frame is made up of hundreds or thousands of mathmatical computations.  The root of understanding how all that works is here at Mathnasium so this is a special place!”

Nick McKinley - Instructor

About Nick:  Nick is a drummer and a teacher.  He knows that rythem, music and math are inherently connected in a way that is primative and ancient.  No matter what language aliens speak we know they will speak math so it is our past, present and future.

Fun Fact:  Nick has traveled all accross the US as a competitive indoor drummer.

Favorite Math Joke:  Here is some advice: In a job interview, always let them know you are willing to give 110%.  Unless the job is as a statistician or mathmatician.

Nick said:  “I'm new at Mathnasium but so far I like the kids.  Every one learns a little different and needs a little different approach.  It keeps me on my toes.”

 Rachel Hurtz - Instructor

About Rachel:  Rachel is a junior math education major and computer science minor at Southern Nazarene University.  She loves the community aspect of math and how we can use it to work together to solve problems.

Fun Fact:  Rachel loves to run!  She has run everything from a 400m to a half marathon, and has a goal one to run a full marathon!

Favorite Math Joke:  What do you call a number that can't keep still?  A Roamin' Numeral!

Rachel said:  "I love working with the students and getting to be a part of helping them reach those a-ha! moments when a concept finally "clicks"."
